Thomas Zimmerman Obituary
Thomas G. Zimmerman, 82, of Chicago, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025, at Illinois Masonic Hospital.
Born and raised in Chicago, Tom dedicated his life to education, faith, and service. He studied theology at Mundelein College of Loyola University and taught at St. Scholastica High School before beginning a long career in educational publishing, retiring from Pearson Education in 2007.
A passionate HAM radio operator known as W9TTY, Tom also volunteered with the Lincoln Park Zoo for over a decade and was a member of both the Zoo Heritage Society and the University of Chicago Phoenix Society. He was active in local running events and a regular at NEIU and Chicago Park District pools.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Sherry Zimmerman, his siblings Mary Clark, Peter Zimmerman (Katy Harington), and Margaret Yamin (George); nephew Anthony Clark; and nieces Elizabeth Clark-Wood, Rose Yamin, and Alina Yamin. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Anne and Paul Zimmerman.
A private green burial will take place at Spring Vale Cemetery in Lafayette, Indiana, on August 4. A celebration of life will be held in Chicago at a later date.

Earlier today
Tom was two years behind me in the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart high school seminary and major seminary. He was also one of the three church organists in the seminary at that time. He was the most talented of the three! Tom was a very bright student and excelled in his seminary studies. I'm happy to say that I was one of his friends.
