It was my privilege to work with Bill on a major investigation during my term as United States Attorney. He was a diligent, honorable and competent investigator and working companion. In my experience, few that his skills and work ethic. He was truly a fine man and public servant. Thomas P. Sullivan.

As a relatively young agent, I was assigned to the greatest IRS-CID group, the political corruption group managed by Ed Kalata. Bill Witkowski was one of the senior agents of this group and its shining light. Bill's integrity and work ethic were a model for all in the group to emulate. His investigations, both known and still unknown, will never be duplicated.

May Bill's Memory Always Be Eternal!

Carole and Family-
Sincerest sympathy.
As confirmed by speaking with one of Bill's sons tonight, as a contemporary and coworker with Bill, I know his children (and even less his grandchildren) know of the work Bill did.
Others here have very aptly said how exceptional Bill was as a criminal investigator. I never worked with Bill directly but know, as everyone else did at the time, that Bill had a reputation as the best of the best. He successfully worked the biggest political corruption cases. He was a role model for all.
Fast forward a few years after we both retired. I had occasion to contact him about a high profile figure he had successfully investigated. Without going into details, it was most apparent to me that Bill believed in what he did and put his heart/ soul into it.
Carry on his legacy, in your own ways, children and grandchildren.

Dear Carole & Family:

Your sense of loss is shared by many of us who know Bill:s important role in striving to clean up politics and government. Working out of the spotlight as an IRS investigator, he toppled some of Illinois' highest-ranking corrupt officials. During my 25 years as a news reporter in Chicago, Bill stood out as perhaps the most effective ally of the public trust.

Be strong in his memory.

Carole:

It was my pleasure to work with Bill from 1971 to 1986 as the Division Chief. In my opinion, Bill was the crème de la crème in terms of financial investigators in an office filled with outstanding federal agents.

My prayers and sympathies go out to you and your family. May God bless you all.

Dear Carol and family,

I had the privilege of working with Bill for many years at the I R S and the U S Atty office in Chicago. Bill was a mentor to me and a great help in my career. As a professional Bill had no peer. He was the consummate law enforcement professional. As a person, he was a caring and decent man. He was very special and made everyone he worked with a better person.
I would like to express my condolences to you and your family. All of us who had the pleasure of knowing Bill have been blessed by this extraordinary man.
