Anthony Cannata Obituary

Cannata, Anthony

Anthony Ricardo Cannata of Downers Grove, IL, 75, an actor, former Chicago police officer and perennially disappointed White Sox fan, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 16, 2026.

He was the beloved son of Geraldine Jane (Barclay) Chamberlain and Chicago Patrolman Anthony Cannata, with whom he shared a badge number (#2216). Anthony was the loving father of Anthony Martin Cannata (Lauren Cumbia) and the grandfather of Isla Lauren Cannata.

Born in Chicago on June 17, 1950, Anthony was shaped by his father's line-of-duty death in 1953. Following in his father's footsteps, he served as a Chicago police officer before relocating to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the arts.

As a character actor, he brought authentic strength to films including Above the Law, Hoffa, and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. A larger-than-life storyteller, Anthony's journey from the streets of Chicago to Hollywood reflected a life of courage, reinvention, and a dedication to honoring the dignity of others.

Visitation and Services: A funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Saint Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, 4220 N. Sheridan Rd., Chicago. Interment will be private.
