William Schimpf Obituary

William F. Schimpf, age 73, a retired Marine Corps officer and accomplished musician died at home of metastatic adenocarcinome. Mr. Schimpf, of Springfield, was born in Hackensack, N.J., and grew up in neighboring East Rutherford, N.J. After retiring from the Marine Corps in 1965, he settled in Woodbridge and continued his career as a musician, playing back up to many notables and groups spanning generations such as Paul Anka, Perry Como, Beverly Sills, Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra, Roberta Flack, Four Tops; many local conventions; inaugural balls for Nixon, Carter, Bush Sr., Clinton; Barnum and Bailey Circus and 17 years with the Redskin Pro Band. He is survived by his wife Virginia B. Schimpf; daughter, Dianne Meetre of Manassas; four stepchildren and six grandchildren. Interment will be Jan. 16 at 9 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery, where friends may meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Administration Building.
