William Murphy Obituary

Murphy, William R. "Bill" William R. "Bill" Murphy, 78, died peacefully on November 9, 2017. He is survived by his loving wife, Helen (nee Stergios); beloved sons, William (Cari Bogulski) and Michael Levine (Mina Greb); and many cherished nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins. Bill was preceded in death by his dear parents, Robert and Agnes and brother Robert, of Fairfield, IA. Born on April 25, 1939, in Fairfield, IA, Bill graduated from Fairfield High School in 1957 and moved to Chicago. He worked at the Rock Island Railroad, Chicago Sun-Times, and from 1986 at Bankers Life Insurance Company until retiring in 2004. Bill sang in the semi-pro Rock Island Railroad Choir and in church choirs. He was active in the United Methodist Church and its Reconciling Ministries, volunteered at the Irving Park UMC Community Food Pantry, and helped establish the New Hope UMC Community Food Pantry, of which he was Executive Director. His children remember him as a kind, gentle man who unfailingly supported them. A private cremation is scheduled. A memorial service, with a reception to follow, is scheduled at Glenview United Methodist Church, 727 Harlem Ave, Glenview, IL, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2017. Pastor Hwa-Young Chung will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bill's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the New Hope UMC Community Food Pantry at 7115 W.
