To the entire Larson family: It was really nice to see such a great turnout for Bill's memorial service last week! I really enjoyed getting to know him all over again, at the U of M, when he would come down to my Post Office and mail his letters out. He was such a great friend to Mom and Dad, and they always enjoyed visiting with the whole Larson family! Take care, and cherish the many great memories of such a great man!

As Yoda so prophetically declared in Star Wars - the force has felt the loss of a great and powderful force! Dr. Larson was an incredible soil scientist and even greater man. His passing will create a void in the critical thinking mass in the world of soil science. I had the wonderful fortune, although short, of working just down the hall from Dr. Larson's office in 1978-1980. Dr. Larson's door was always open and 'welcoming'. I was a young scientist at the time and Dr. Larson was always available to talk, guide, mentor, and just listen. No matter what I had to say, ask, or complain about, he always mad me feel important. I subsequently left U of M, a personal choice, to raise a family in Montana. But, every year I'd have the good fortune to meet Dr. Larson in the halls of the ASA-SSSA-CSSA meetings - and true to his character - his strong handshake and pat on the back was always first to greet me. A big smile and the question: "Jim, how are you? I think of you often." Made my day - every time we met. Dr. Larson was a very caring person, but also a wonderful soil scientist who was always thinking beyond the borders. I know that soil science is a much more informed and critical thinking community today because of him. And, I will continue to know that he always cared about my well-being before my professional well being.

Best regards.

Ruth & family,
My daughter just called to tell me of Bill's death. You and Bill were blessed with a long life together and he will greatly missed. Your friendship meant much to us when we were in St. Paul years ago. With the support of family and friends and knowing how blessed you are, will get you through this sorrow.

Dear Ruthelaine and Family: Sincerest sympathies on the passing of Bill. I had the honor and privilege of working with Bill during his terms as an officer of ASA and SSSA. Bill was one of the finest people I ever worked with during my years of service to the Societies. He will be greatly missed not only by his family but by his many colleagues and by his profession as a whole. He and you are in our hearts and prayers.

We are so sorry for your loss, Suzanne and Kathy, and families. We remember all the times we spent with your family at the house in Shoreview throughout Jr. & Sr. High school. Your parents were so special. I remember when your mom lead the sewing group for 4H. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.
