Greene, Jr., William Charles

William Charles Greene, Jr. ("Corky") passed away on February 16, 2022. He was born on January 26, 1947, the first of four sons born to William Sr. and Anna (Walton) Greene in Chicago, IL. He obtained his education in Catholic schools, graduating from St. Mel High School in 1964. He served in the 1st Air Cavalry Division of the United States Army and served in Vietnam from 1967-1969. He remained in the reserves until 1973.

William married Benita Richmond in 1972 and went on to have a son, Michael, and a daughter, Jennifer. While supporting a family, William enrolled in college and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He took additional classes to learn computer programming, which became his career. He worked as a mainframe programmer for Montgomery Ward, the City of Chicago, and a handful of other companies as an independent contractor. In addition to programming, William held a number of other jobs throughout his life, including driving a taxi, painting cars, selling records, teaching computer-based classes at Jane Addams High School in Chicago, and briefly driving a truck and a school bus.

Preceding William in death are his father and mother. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Benita, son Michael (Ruth Boyer), daughter Jennifer, brothers George (Celeste), David (Mackie), Martin (Jackie), and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends. William was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.

Services for William will be held at Leak and Sons Funeral Home, 18400 S. Pulaski Rd, Country Club Hills, IL on Tuesday, March 1, 2022. Visitation begins at 1:00 pm; funeral service begins at 2:00 pm.
