Finlon Sr., William "Bill" Anthony

William "Bill" Anthony Finlon Sr., age 91, passed peacefully on Friday March 4th 2022. He was the beloved husband of the late Lorraine "Lorry" Finlon; loving father of Bill, Jr. (Karen) Finlon, Fran (Bernie) Brady, Mary (late Ward) Pytosky, Timothy (Jane) Finlon, and Joan (John) Landry; adored grandfather of 12 and proud great grandfather of three. Also survived by his sister Margaret (Robert) Foley and preceded in death by his siblings James, Lorraine, Charles, and Frank. Bill is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. Born and raised in Chicago, Bill was inducted into the U.S. Marine Corps in 1951, trained at Camp Lejeune and departed for Korea where he served in a medical unit as a Communications Specialist. Bill came home to Chicago in September 1953 and had the good fortune to meet Lorry. They wed in September 1954 and Bill began his career at U.S. Steel South Works where he retired as a Foreman in the Electrical Department. A proud resident of Chicago's East Side neighborhood, Bill contributed to many community volunteer activities, including the East Side Lions, St. Francis De Sales Parish and high school, American Legion Post 220, and helped establish the East Side Little League. Bill's handyman talents, especially woodworking, were generously shared with his family and friends. His wit and quick smile are the gifts his family and friends will cherish and miss most. Visitation Friday, March 11, 2022 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral Service Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. from the Elmwood Chapel, 11200 S. Ewing Ave., Chicago to Our Lady of Nazareth Parish (formerly Annunciata Church). Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m. Interment St. Mary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Honor Flight Chicago ( www.honorflightchicago.org) in William's name would be appreciated.
