Wesley James EBEL February 16, 1930 ~ July 12, 2008 Born on February 16, 1930 and grew up in Algonquin, Illinois, Wes was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Sally Ebel, his four sons, James (Nancy), Gary, Thomas (Renae), and Charles (Jessie); and his grand children, Andrea, Jennica, Holly, Maggie, Grace; Melissa, Brad, and Josh; one great grandchild Cadence; along with his brother Richard, and his caring nieces and nephews. Wes enjoyed fishing, hunting, farm ing, and doing most anything out doors with his family and friends. He received a B.S from University of Nevada in 1953 where he played foot ball on scholarship. After college, he served as a Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps during the Kore an War. He later received his PhD. from the University of Idaho in 1978 and then served as Division Director of the Coastal Zone and Estuarine Studies Division of the National Ma rine Fisheries Service. His research on the Columbia and Snake River sal mon spanned more than 30 years. He pioneered research on the supersatu ration of atmospheric gases and the effects of collection and transporta tion on juvenile salmon and has au thored more than 40 articles regard ing salmon research on the Snake and Columbia Rivers. Wes truly enjoyed his work and his colleagues. He will always be re membered for his sense of humor, big heart and dedication to ensure future generations have the opportunity to enjoy salmon and the great outdoors.
