Steinle, Walter "Wally" H.

Walter "Wally" H. Steinle, 79, of Poplar Grove passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2021.

Wally was born on October 24, 1941 in Chicago, IL, son of Walter F. and Eleanor (Schmidt) Steinle. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Wally married the love of his life, Monica B. Skic on December 19, 1964 in Chicago. He began his life-long career as a firefighter with the Chicago Fire Department for 38 and ½ years and was promoted to Battalion Chief in 1992. Wally was an active parishioner of St. Juliana Catholic Church of Chicago for many years and was also a member of the American Legion, Post #667. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, cooking and most of all, spending time with his family. Wally will be dearly missed.

Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife, Monica Steinle; children, Donna (Tim) Quinn, Sr. and Darrell (Natella) Steinle; grandchildren, Tim Quinn, Jr., Kevin (Diane) Quinn, Kaitlyn, Emily and Meagan Quinn and step-grandson, Tyler Vasylenko; niece, Pam (Jim) Woerner and numerous nieces and nephews; siblings-in-law, Cecilia (John) Luhm, Robert Skic, Carol (Don) Kaatz and Edwina (Carl) Whitt. Wally is predeceased by his parents and sister, Barbara (Hugh) McKeown.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL 61108. Cremation rites will be accorded.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Burn Foundation of America.
