Walter Ruscik Obituary

Ruscik, Walter S. "Rus" 89, of Oak Park. Born October 29, 1921 in New Bedford, Ma, he passed away Friday, September 9 in Lake Zurich surrounded by his family. Walter was the beloved husband of the late Phyllis (nee Kline), loving father of Carol (Rick) Whitesell, Thomas (DJ) Ruscik, Phyllis (Joseph) Fitzgerald, and Kim (late Robert) Underwood, dear grandfather of Kevin Mullins, Kerry O'Brien, Kelly Johnson, Joseph Jr. and Jason Fitzgerald, and Robert Jr., Danielle, and Gabrielle Underwood, adored great-grandfather of 15, and brother to Lee Adamowski, Helen Ewaszko, Sophie Sladewski, and Frank and Chester Ruscik. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Stanley and Leo Ruscik, and sisters Stacia Dobyna and Stefanie Wajda. Walter served in the Navy during WWII from 1942 to 1946, earning the Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He met his wife of 55 years, Phyllis, while they were both serving in the Navy. Walter was a retired bus driver for the CTA after 33 years of service. Visitation will be 3-9pm. Tues. Sept. 13 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St, Barrington. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11a.m. Wed. Sept 14, with visitation from 10a.m. until the mass at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 N. Ela St, Barrington. Burial in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside following mass.
