Pauline, Nyla, Crystal and Keith - I met Walter 17 years ago when he and Pauline would wait for their grandson, Britt, to get out of preschool. My son was in that same class. We visited every day of that class. Later we met at baseball games when my son's team played Britt's team. He always enjoyed hearing of my husband's football team in Park Ridge. I enjoyed talking with Walter and Pauline and hearing of their many trips over the years. I got to know of your family through these conversations. They even invited me to a living trust lunch presentation where we both had our trusts written up. He was always a gentleman and very respectful. He was truly a member of the "greatest generation." I last saw him a few months back in a store where we spoke at length. I wish to extend all my sympathies to your family on your loss.

Pauleen, Nyla, Crystal, Keith, and family: Your loss is shared by the Sun-Times community that knew, cared for, and respected Walter. I valued him as a person, a boss, my first professional mentor, and a force of nature. Please accept my condolences.
