Walter Jones Obituary

Walter Jones Walter Jones BROCKTON Walter Jones of Brockton, died peacefully at his home on December 3, 2009. Raised by his grandparents Wolfgang and Aurelia Brumbach on Fuller Street, Mr. Jones was a life long resident of Brockton. A veteran of WWII, Mr. Jones enlisted in the Army in 1945, immediately upon graduation from Brockton High School. He served in the Pacific Theater, most notably on Saipan. Following the war, Mr. Jones returned to Brockton and began work as an industrial pipefitter, a trade he did for 40 years. Mr. Jones real joy, however, came from his family, friends and hobbies. A baritone, he sang with the Brockton Harmoneers and the quartet Mass Confusion, performing in many local shows and competitions. He also enjoyed playing the piano and was a long time member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Singing in America. Mr. Jones interest in Model Ts extended over 40 years. He was a member of the Model T Ford Club of America and the Old Colony Model T Club. Ever the tinkerer, Mr. Jones enjoyed both the challenge of restoring early cars and sharing the finished results in local parades. It was through his hobbies that Mr. Jones made a great many friends, which he and his wife, Mary, enjoyed entertaining at their home with parties and cookouts. Described by all who knew him as young at heart, Mr. Jones happiest times were driving his Model T and singing with his family around the piano. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 20 years, Mary Jones; his son Steven Jones of Brockton; his son Theodore Jones and his wife Jean of Bridgewater; his daughter Laurie OConnor and her husband Tim of Berkeley; two step daughters, Ann Petrone of Cambridge and Cheryl Petrone of New Bedford; six grand children and one great-grand child. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine, and his grandson, Gary Jones. Visiting hours Sunday 2-6pm in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street, (Rte 123) Brockton. Funeral Monday from the funeral home at 9am followed by a funeral mass in St. Ann Church W. Bridgewater at 10am. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, W. Bridgewater. Donations in memory of Mr. Jones may be made to the Hospice of Greater Brockton, 500 Belmont Street, Suite 215, Brockton, MA 02301. We offer our sincere sympathy to Mr. Jones' wife Mary, his children and family. We met Walter many years ago when he was working with his son Steve at our home. He was a man of many talents and interests, and, over the years, we would get updates from Steve on how he was doing. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. May your happy memories of him bring you comfort
and joy.

Mary,
I remember Walter from the Old Colony Power Squadron meetings years ago. He loved to sing and his quartet entertained everyone at one of the clambakes. My prayers go out to you.

Mary
What a great tribute to Walter in the Enterprise. I especially loved the St. Pattys corned beef and cabbage, but the comfort it gave me to see Gary and Stepehnie love being a part of all the get togethers is one of my greatest memories and of course the "Christmas gift" Grandpa chose made especially by Gary, even with the price tag. You know I will be with you all in my thoughts and prayers.
love
Gail
