Mr.and Mrs.Grajdura were the nicest landlords. I grew up in their bldg on Willow. My family was the 1st to move in when it was brand new back in 1967-68. I was only 3yrs old. I used to love to water the grass. Both Mr. and Mrs Grajdura never once complained how much water I sprinkled with. In fact mr. and mrs Grajdura told my mother to leave me be, and they could care less how much water I used. as long as I was having fun and making no trouble.
In the past five years, I visited the building I used to live in and noticed their names were on the mail box. They were living in the exact same unit I grew up in. I knocked on the door, Mrs. Grajdura answered and I told her who I was. After 30 yrs of not seeing me she certainly remembered me...she called me joey and said to her husband....Look whos here and she invited me in. I think I stayed about 3 hours. We had lunch, Beef sandwiches. I returned for another visit about a year later. Again had me in for more food. I am so sorry to hear of the passing of both these wonderful people. I only now wish I had kept in much better contact. I have followed in their footsteps of being landlords. I have had guidance on a few occassions from Mrs. Grajdura.
my sympothy to the entire family, i have just learned today 12-27-06 of the passings as i tried calling them. I am ever so sorry.

I only knew Walter enough to say hello over the back fence. He was a dignified man, a gentleman. I wish I could have known him a little better.

A few of countless memories:
Mr. Grajdura - I never called you by any other name name - with all due respect....
Joe - Mrs. Grajdura (also never called her by any other name) called you... As I recall, she never really liked the name "Walter".
Wladyslaw or Wladeck called by friends.
Big, painted white, table ... next to the garage ... lit by a garage lantern ... shining on chess players in the night.
A garden ... the tallest sunflowers ever seen ... grapes .. purple (I would eat them ... pretending to like them ... out of respect for the work taken to grow them)... I only liked the green ones..
Barbeque grill - our family never barbeque in the "yard" way back then..... I'd look through the chain link fence thinking ... wow, I wish we could barbeque in our yard ... not only at the beach.. And, he would invite his friend who had the cutest son...
Silver teeth ... as I recall ... the first one appeared after a trip to his homeland, Poland....
Growing up, I never knew what he did for a living ... I always thought .... mmm .... he must work outdoors ... he's always tan!
A dog named Poncho gave him a run...
A red jeep .... wow .... what a thrill to be one of the kids chosen on a given day to go for a spin around the neighborhood... one of only two convertibles I've ever been in..
The father and husband of a family I have known for 48 years ....
May you join your amazing wife ... in eternal love and peace....
Your legacy lives on in your gifted and loving children, my childhood friends, Gigi, Colette, Michael and Michelle....
With all our love ... Christine, Matthew and Holly
