Vivian Walkosz Obituary
Dr. Vivian A. Walkosz, Ed.D., long-time resident of the "Back of the Yards" neighborhood of Chicago. Passed away, peacefully, in her home this Fourth of July weekend. Devoted daughter of the late Joseph Walkosz and the Late Catherine nee Buinda. Loving sister of the late Alice (Late Honorable Vincent) Tondryk and the Late Richard (Dorothy) Walkosz. Beloved Aunt of many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. Loving niece of the Late Helen Buinda. Vivian was a long-time member of the Polish Arts Club of Chicago, serving in many roles, including President. She was a Professor in the Department of Curriculum at Northeastern Illinois University. After retiring, Vivian earned Professor Emerita. She touched the lives of many. Funeral Monday at Holy Name Cathedral 730 N. Wabash Ave. in Chicago for 10:30AM Mass. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation at Michalik Funeral Home 1056 W. Chicago Ave. in Chicago. Visitation Sunday 3 PM until 6 PM. For further information, call

If it wasn´t for Dr. Walkosz I probably wouldn´t have become a teacher. She pushed me to do my best in class (I had her for methods of teaching math) and she was my senior advisor.

My deepest sympathy in the loss of this wonderful lady. Viv was a wonderful friend and a great teacher. We taught at NEIU where she imparted wisdom to her students. If our future teachers were going to learn how to teach math to their students, she created an environment that showed them how to engage with their students . She and her sister, Alice, were two peas in a pod and devoted to each other. Her love of family, God, her culture and those around her was exemplary. She had a heart of gold!

Sorry to hear of the passing of Aunt Vivian. May she rest in peace. She was a lovely lady who really enjoyed life. I will always remember "Aunt Vivian" for her stories about her adventures with her sister, "Mrs. T". She was very entertaining. I know she had a deep faith and I am confident she is enjoying her eternal home.
