MARLBOROUGH Virginia Mary (Hill) Toone, 83, took graceful leave of this earth on Tuesday morning, Dec. 23, 2008, after devoted and tireless care at the home of her daughter, Cynthia, and son-in-law, Allen, succumbing to a long and fearless struggle with gall bladder cancer. She is now reunited in heaven with her husband and love of her life, Edward Joseph Toone, whom she married in June 1947. She is also now with their first baby, her husbands namesake, a tragic loss remembered always. Virginia and her husband had three more children for whom they created the most fulfilling and adoring lifelong family bonds. We, her children and our spouses, who each love her more than words aptly express, are David G. Toone and his wife, Bonnie, of Marlborough, Cynthia H. Riley and her husband, Allen of Douglas, and Jennifer A. Corrigan and her husband, Daniel, of Providence, R.I. A wonderful and ever-present grandma, Virginia was vastly proud of her grandchildren, Kristen, Allen, and David Riley, Amanda Toone, Tammy and David Fernandes, Wendi Young, and Edward Toone Corrigan (who will be born in March 2009). She also held dear her faithful nephew, Norman Reynolds. Virginia was born in Boston in September 1925, to parents, the late Henry and Helen Hill, both pillars of strength and family devotion. She was the sister of the late Doris Reynolds, a brilliant writer and close-knit sibling. A lifelong Democrat, Virginias world was her childrens eternal happiness, classic poetry, reading, decorating and entertaining for the holidays (especially Christmas), intelligent discussions on every imaginable subject, bird watching from her sun porch, challenging crossword puzzles, gazing at the ocean, and rooting for the Red Sox. In addition to her lifes work as wife, mother, grandmother, and shining example to all who knew her, she was a committed "Each One, Teach One" tutor in both Foxboro and Marlborough, a member of the Bethany Church community in Foxboro, an active member of the Womens Club, and a volunteer at Marlborough Hospital. Mom, your wisdom, undying tenacity, boundless love, and childlike wonder will neer be forgotten and will live on through each of us. This world has truly lost its most precious gem. Our family would like to express great appreciation to Virginias oncologist and the wonderful nurses and staff of UMass Memorial Hospice. Memorial services will be private, under the care of the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, Foxboro. In lieu of flowers, donations in the name of Virginia Toone may be made to UMass Memorial Hospice, 650 Lincoln St., Worcester, MA. 01605. For additional information please contact 508-543-5471.
