Virginia Connelly Obituary

Connelly, Virginia

On Saturday, March 2, 2024, Anna Marie Virginia Delgado Connelly, lovingly known as Virginia, passed away at the age of 77.

Virginia was born on December 7, 1946 in Chicago, IL to Frank and Margaret Delgado. She was the 6th of 11 children, all of whom grew up in the Pilsen neighborhood. Virginia graduated from St. Pius High School in 1964 and immediately went to work in the banking sector, where she excelled as a Mortgage Loan Officer for the next 50 years. In 1968, she married Michael Connelly and relocated to the Beverly neighborhood, where she and Mike lovingly raised three children: Nicholas, Patrick, and Margaret (aka Muffie).

Virginia is preceded in death by her husband Michael, parents Frank and Margaret, and siblings Frank, Corrine, Ernest, Tony, and Rita. She is survived by her children Nicholas, Patrick, and Muffie, her grandchildren Brendan, Kaitlin, Francesca, and Paloma, her siblings Margaret, Rita, Mary, Richard, and Robert, and her cousin Leroy.

Virginia was well-known for her generous hospitality and her boundless joyful spirit. She adored her community and cherished her childhood memories of growing up in Pilsen with her large Delgado family. Her Mexican breakfast was a Sunday morning staple in the Beverly neighborhood and, for many on the Southside, the Saint Patrick's Day Parade couldn't start until you passed through her kitchen.

Virginia's home always had an open door policy, where everyone was welcomed and felt safe anyday/anytime, and there was always room for one more seat at her table. For Virginia, celebration of life was a daily practice and she shared this joy and an unparallelled abundance of love with those who surrounded her.

Virg was a wonderful part of my memories growing up on 106th Place. Adults on the front steps, kids playing games on the dead-end street. A warm and fun neighbor who was an amazing cook, and great friend to my Mom. Challenges never slowed her down, the smile never faltered. She is the last of the "old-timers" on the block. It was a wonderful time!

Sad to hear of my beautiful aunts passing.
She was indeed a person filled with light.
I smile when I think of my interactions with her over the years.
She was always warm, interested and caring.
May she rest in peace in the loving embrace of Our Father.

Oh Virg, I don't know where to start. Here goes, we met at Pleasant Valley farm when we were probably about 10. We shared an apartment together and we had so much fun and wonderful memories. I met your cousin and married him and we became family. The Delgado's were a wonderful family. My children love you to the moon and back. I will miss you but thankful for all the memories throughout the years. You lived your life to the fullest everyday. Was looking forward to your visit here in San Antonio but we will reunite in Paradise. Your are now resting with the Angels. Peace and comfort to Nick, Pat and Muffy and all the grandchildren during this difficult time.

You will always be in my mind and heart from the day we met at 5 years old until the day you passed at 77 years old with my hand in yours on our way to Arizona to have our girls week at Mary Lou´s house. I will always remember all the wonderful memories we had together and never forget what a great friend you always were. This is not goodbye but until we meet again. All my love and condolences to your family.

Growing up in Beverly, I went to school with Pat, and Nick. I've only met Mrs. Connelly a handful of times when we were kids, she was very kind and warm. And a great Mom to her 3 children, as well as Mr. Connelly was to all of us. I can say, The parents that raised us then were truly beautiful people, and She will be missed by all of us, May God shine his perpetual light on Mrs. Connelly, and keep her family in his prayers! Amen fondly, Brian J. Cahill
