To the beautiful family of Jody Noa,

We came to know Jody when his daughter Amanda became friends with our kids. She went on a spring vacation road trip to Florida with us and then a very long bus trip to Atlanta with our Youth Group. We never had the privilege of hearing him play the harmonica, but he talked about playing for a fund raiser for the youth group. We did get to experience his fine Italian cooking once, it was awesome! Most importantly we came to know Jody as a warm and caring man deeply in love with his daughter and willing to do anything to see to her every need. It is hard to be a parent of a teen let alone being a single Dad. My hat is off to Jody as he was walking the walk of parenting. He left his daughter a legacy of a full life lived with spunk and laughter. He also left her with a wonderful family who cares and loves her beyond the limits. The beauty of death is that it makes you a better person, if you let it.

Amanda, you may not know it fully yet, but you are so loved and you are so blessed to have your wonderful family. Live your life with the same spunk your Dad had!

Loving you always,

The Swangstu Family

When I first moved from NYC to Chicago, in 1976, Jody and the Noa family made me feel welcome and treated me like family. Jody and I had many great musical experiences together, and tons of laughs. He was one of the funniest guys I ever knew. I used to call him the "all-around man", because he was so good at so many things. They just don't make 'em like Jody anymore. He will be greatly missed.

December 23, 2004

All the wonderfull things people say about him are 100% true, my dad was a kind, generous, funloving person, he shined. But I was lucky enough to spend 17 straight years with him, he was my whole entire world. There is not anyone else like him, he was one of a kind, and he truly was the cats meow. My dad knew how to make everything better, he could fix all my problems with singing me my buttercup song or hugging me the way he did. He also knew how to make a trip to the grocery store an adventure. I will never forget how special he was to me and so many other countless people. I will always love you daddy, you were and still are everything to me

You can teach someone to play the harmonica or the guitar. You can learn these instruments. But you can't learn or teach soul. Soul is something - you either have it or ain't got it. Jody Noa definitely had it.

For all of us who had the privilege of playing with him in the Sho' Nuff Blues Band, and for all his friends and fans, there are no words for how we'll miss him. God called another blues man home. So long Jody...we love ya...jam on, brother.

Jody, you will be missed by many.

Now you're with our "Godfather" Junior Wells, who once told you that you were a "dirty boy"; the highest praise possible. I know there's a great jam going on up there.

So sorry to all your family and friends left behind. Mandy, if you need anything or want some videos or pics of Jody, just call or e-mail me.

What a shock to learn of Jodys passing. We've known each other since the West End/Haywires days. Years passed and we'd see each other on an occasional basis, but Jody always welcomed you with open arms and heart. We'd talk of his daughter and his upcoming projects. He was always on the go. God speed to all his loved ones. Know that he will be missed and will be enjoying a paradise in heaven jamming with the best!

My condolences and deepest sympathy to Jody's family and friends. I met Jody in 1980 at the Checkerboard Lounge, where I was working as a guitar player with Lefty Dizz. I saw Jody often in the Blues clubs over the next 16 years. I will always remember his friendly smile and the laughs we shared as musicians and "South-Siders". Since I have been based in the Tampa Bay Area for the last 8 years, I saw Jody only once during this time, when I visited him two years ago in Pell Lake with our friend Bob Levis. I'm glad we had this one last time to jam, laugh and share stories of our years in the Chicago Blues clubs. It is sad that Jody is gone at such a young age, but he will be remembered for his friendly and youthful exhuberance, which he must be bringing to that jam session with our other departed Blues buddies in Blues heaven.

UNCLE BE-BOP

You have touched so many people's lives in such a deep way. Over the last few days I have seen hundreds of people come from all over to show their respect and love for you. You always had a funny story, a crazy outfit on,(I loved that about you) or a kind word. You never got aggrivated when I would bug you every time to play Scratch My Back. You loved it when we would be up there dancing while you were playing. You taught me that you should never put off for tomorrow what you can do or say today. My only regret is that we did not do those long weekends of just hanging out like we always talked about. You know that ALL of us love you and your beautiful daughter so much. We will miss you always, but we are so lucky to have some of the fondest memories with you. There are a ton of good Uncle Jody stories that continue to make us laugh and smile. We love you!

Dear Amanda, Uncle Joe, Aunt Joan, Judy, Jimmy Joe, Janet and Jacquie.. You know how much we loved Jody. We're certain he is playing his best sho 'nuff stuff and the angels are enjoying a new type of "harp" music. Heaven never sounded so good. He will be playing a big Christmas concert for Uncle Tony, Grandma Noa, Grandma Kerr and Mom to name a few. Jody lived life to its fullest and brought people from all walks of life together to enjoy his music, family, friends and good times. We'll miss him dearly...Love you all so much..

To the Noa family,

Annie: I'm so sorry to hear about Jody. I've known Jody since I was a kid and he always had a smile that was infectious. We had some great times and I'll always remember sitting in the Noa kitchen sharing laughs (and food). I pray that he's forever playing and laughing.

Eddie: What a talent and what a heart for the music. One of the last times I saw Jody, we were jamming in the parking lot at the Bull Market in Chicago Ridge. I was just a beginner at performing and jamming on guitar but Jody acted like he was playing with Bob Dylan. Play on brother! You will be missed.

Jody was one of those guys who was always up, even when he was down. He always had a kind thing to say, and a little cheer to spread. But ups and downs don't matter, because Jody had LOVE in his heart. That's all that matters in the end. Jody knew that, and thats why he didn't sweat the small stuff. He lived life. I met Jody this summer at the lake with his family. He was the type of person who you were immediately drawn to by his open approach and genuine interest in who you were. He invited me up to his Pell Lake home and encouraged me to bring my guitar so we could jam. Being a rank amateur, I told him I wasn't good enough to play with him. Know what he told me? He said he could probably learn something from me. And I could tell he meant it, there was nothing phoney about the man. I regret I won't get to know him better and I regret we'll never get to jam. My sympathy to his daughter Amanda, his parents Joanie and Joe, the rest of his family and his legions of fans and friends. Rest easy my friend...
