Turner Hazelwood Obituary

Turner Lee Hazelwood

BOSSIER CITY, LA - Turner Lee Hazelwood, 80, of Bossier City, passed away October 17, 2013. He was born in West Point, TN on August 26, 1933 to the late William Luther and Alice Lee Hazelwood. He graduated from Letourneau College in Longview, TX then spent two (2) years in the United States Army. Turner worked for Arkla Gas Company for 33 years as a draftsman and department supervisor before retiring in 1990. Not only was Arkla the place where he made a career, but it's also where he met his sweetheart for life Mary Bennett Hazelwood. Turner and Mary loved spending time together; you rarely saw one without the other. They loved fishing, camping and traveling across the country in their RV, spending time with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Mary Bennett Hazelwood; three children, Rebecca (William) Kennedy of Blanchard, Byron (Tami) Hazelwood of Shreveport, Shelly (Chris) Marr of Sherwood, AR, four step-children, Linda (Glen) Breedlove of Brandon, MS, Leslie (Teresa) Heins of Lafayette, LA, Robert (Jill) Heins of Benton, LA, Andy (Heather) Heins of Dublin, OH, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Leslie Heins, Robert "Robby" Heins, Andy Heins, Todd Carter, Chris Marr and Glen Breedlove.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Bossier City, with Reverend Robert Beadle officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. preceding funeral service. Burial will be at Rose-Neath Cemetery in Bossier City.

We would like to give a special thank you to Ms. Sharon Hall for taking such wonderful care of our loving husband and father. And, to the doctors and nurses of Hospice and the Grace Home, you made a very difficult time a little easier. We would also like to thank Dr. Charles Powers, Dr. Paul Jordan, Dr. Michael Sewell, Dr. Sanjeevi Tivakaran, Dr. Robert Savory and Pam Nail, R.N.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace Home or the Alzheimer's Association.

Mary, and all the family of Turner, please know that Steve and I are so sorry for your loss and truly regret we did not learn of his passing in time to be with you today. May God hold you in his embrace as you learn to put one foot in front of the other, a day at the time. So many years of happiness shared is hard to give up. Turner taught all of us at Arkla at to be not only a better draftsman, but a better person. Love and prayers, Shelia and Steve Rogers

Dear Mary and all of Turner's family,
I was so sorry to hear this morning of Turner's passing, but I know that Dad was there to greet Turner as he arrived in Heaven. I always enjoyed being around Turner. He was such a kind, quiet, and gentle man. We grieve with you and love you.

Turner was truly a generous, kind soul. Turner always had a smile and a chuckle when he met up with his friends from the old Arkla days. He taught me how to be a Draftsman and how to make a living years past when we worked together, Turner I will truly miss you!

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Turner Lee Hazelwood our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Turner. And to Turner it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country while serving in the U.S. Army. Turner, we commend you for your honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, Generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. You were a true friend. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Turner's family and loved ones.
