We were best friends starting at six or seven. Mondays were the best when I was invited to supper, because Mondays were
always spaghteii. Your mom Tommy made the best. We played baseball, football, ice-hockey, camped in the backyard. Fishing at saginaski, bridgeview lake etc. At night we would ring people's doorbells and then runaway. (Some people said we were bad boys for doing that.). Maybe so. Compared to kids of today tho I'm not so sure.
Good-bye my friend. And thank-you to Mr. Roeback for always putting up the swimming pool in the summer. And the ice rink in the winter time. Trips to White castles on Sundays on Harlem Ave. and Ogden. Mr. Roeback would by thirty White Castle hamburgers , three orders of fries and some drinks. It cost about six dollars. White castle burger cost fifteen cents then. In the middle sixties. 1966or so. Mr. Roeback had the blue station wagon then. We all fit itin the car. We would eat the burgers at the forest preserve. Then Mrs. Roeback walked with us down the trail and explained and told us about certain leaves the insects what kind of trees that were there. That was the best of times. It was sad when my parents moved to Rockford,Illinois when I was a senior at Argo. So instead of going to Rockford, I joined the army.

Dear Nancy, On behalf of the Winkler family I (Susie) would like to express our deepest sympathy to you and your entire family. We lived just behind the Roeback family until about 1976 when we moved to Rockford. It was a fun neighborhood with lots of baseball games, swimming, ice-skating and mini-bike riding thanks to Mr. Roeback and the Roeback family. There was always something going on and Tom was usually a part of it. Tommy was always sweet and kind of quiet. I remember going for rides on the back of that Sears mini-bike with Tommy or Nancy driving. Then he got that very cool Skylark (I think) car...coppery/gold color... so cool! We have not been in touch for many years except when hearing news through my brother John about the old neighborhood.

We are so sad to think Tom was taken so suddenly from you at such a young age and hope you will feel our prayers in the days to come.

Sincerely,

Hans and Dora Winkler, John Winkler, Susie Leatherby, Vickie Mueller

Hello Nancy:

We were shocked when my brother Ken called to tell us about Tom. My mother is staying with us here in Pittsburgh. Unfortunately we will be unable to be there in person. We will be forever grateful for the kindness that the two of you have shown my mother.

Please accept our sincere condolences.
