Thomas Ford Obituary

Ford, Thomas William (Tom) - Age 79

On Thursday, May 13, 2004, Mr. Thomas William Ford, affectionately known as “Tom,” quietly departed this life at his residence in Bryans Road, Maryland.

Tom was born in Issue, Maryland on October 29, 1924 to the late William and Antionette Ford. He was educated in Charles County, Maryland. He was a devout Catholic and a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Issue, Maryland. Tom served as an alter boy in his earlier years and even served as a substitute alter boy, later in life, whenever there was a need.

During the span of his life, he held various jobs. He enjoyed his job as a driver, delivering oysters for Bruce’s Marina. In addition, he was a farmer, raising tobacco and sweet potatoes. He later worked at the Naval Ordnance Station in Indian Head, Maryland as an Explosives Operator until his retirement.

In addition to his love for his family, he truly enjoyed helping people, especially chauffeuring them around when they needed a ride or as an “honorary Funeral Director,” lending a helping hand to his friend Mr. Thornton, whenever he directed funerals at Holy Ghost Church. You could always find him directing cars or helping with the casket.

In addition to his wife, the late Cecelia Ford, and his parents, he is preceded in death by four sons, Norman, Paul, George and Thomas, Jr., two infant daughters, three brothers, Allen, Sylvester, and Vincent, one sister, Martina Dyson and one granddaughter, Audrey Hicks.

He leaves to celebrate his life and mourn his death, his children, Charles (Agnes Marie), James (Margaret Lorraine), Anthony Harold (Marcelle), John (Joan Marie), Phillip (Faye Lucille), Calvin (Tonya Latrise), Cecelia (fiancée, Walter Veney), Hazel (Roy Johnson), Eunice (Antonio L. Henderson), brothers, John and Matthew Ford, sisters, Mildred Munson, Dorothy Ford, Beatrice Washington, Robertson Johnson, Inez Matthews, and Agnes Chase, 40 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren, a devoted companion, Mary Catherine (Sis) Chisley, many nieces, nephews, and cousins, godchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

The viewing will be held on Monday, May 17th, 6:00p.m. to 9:00p.m., prayers, 7:00p.m. at Thornton Funeral Home and on Tuesday, May 18th, 9:00a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial 11:00a.m. at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Issue, Maryland. Interment Church Cemetery.
