If you've ever gone across the sea to Ireland,
then maybe at the closing of your day,
you can sit and watch the moon rise over Claddaugh,
or watch the sun go down in Galway Bay.
Just to hear the ripple of a trout stream,
the women in the meadow making hay
or to sit beside a turf fire in the cabin
and watch the barefoot gossoms as they play
Oh the breezes blowin over the sea to Ireland
and perfumed by the heather as they blow
and the women in the uplands diggin praties
speak a language that the strangers do not know
oh the strangers came and tried to teach us their ways
and they scorned us just for being what we are
but they might as well go chasing after moonbeams
or light a penny candle from a star
And if there is going to be a life hereafter
and fate, I am sure there's going to be
I will ask my God to let me make my Heaven
in that dear old land across the Irish sea.

My deepest condolences to John and Ginny. Cousin Tom was so wonderful. It broke my heart to hear of his passing. He was such a nice person. He was such a friend to the senior citizens from our talks at family reunions. He will be missed. Masses and prayers will be said. God rest his soul. Bye Tommy.. RIP

Tom was a long time friend of my parents, Ray and Jean Bauer. They were part of the famous class of Quigley North '55. Tom was famous for bringing corn beef to the Quigley reunion. I have fond memories. May God hold you in the palm of his hands. Mary Lynn Duffy

Tom Dwyer and my father, Gene Devaney, were great friends who went to school together at Help of Christians. Their wonderful friendship was decades long. When Tom and Mary opened the original Grandpa's Place, our mother Marijane was there with Mary, making the coleslaw. Dad and our bother Mike, both electricians, helped Tom with the restaurants . As young adults, my brother and sisters and I enjoyed going to Grandpa's Place for a fun night of dinner and live music. And there was Tom, smiling always, welcoming us as if we were his own family.
When our beloved dad passed away six years ago, Tom was a great comfort to the Devaney family. When our brother Mike died four years ago, Tom was there for us. We will never forget you, Tom. You were a great friend, a wonderful story teller, and a well-loved man. Your work is done. May you Rest In Peace.
With love,

I knew Tom for many years, both as a friend and a customer of Grandpa's in Glenview. He was a kind and generous man blessed with that great Irish sense of humor. He will be missed by many.
May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

My deepest condolences to Tom's family, he was local treasure and loved by everybody. He was the best boss I ever had in my 47 years of restaurant work, a genuine paterfamilias.
It was a pleasure and a privilege to have worked for him.
Heavenly peace to a great man. He will be sorely missed.

A neighbor, a friend, and one of the kindest and most generous people
I have ever known. During his last 14 years, in our senior residence, Mills Park Tower, he was always ready to help others. Driving other residents to the grocery store, the hairdresser, the doctor, the post office, restaurants, to church, or wherever they asked Tom to take them. He helped many sort out personal problems. He was always ready to spend a few minutes chatting and to share a few laughs. He leaves a big gap in our community. Tom enhanced our lives with many wonderful memories.

Tom's parents and mine were long time friends and I knew Tom and his brother and sisters from my earliest childhood. I remember Tom helping me to learn the Latin so I could become an altar boy. Years later, I loved to go to Grandpa's Place for a beer after the Holy Name bowling league on Wednesday nights. Tom was a great friend and will be missed.
Requiescant in pace Tom.

I was a habitue of Grandpa's Place when i lived in Glenview. I and the other members of my Indian Princesses (Yuma) tribe, Lloyd , Dick, Jerry, Ben, Mike often met there after a meeting or camp out. I was delighted and surprised when the proprietor, Tom Dwyer, ended up in the same independent living facility in Oak Park that I did. He was my friend and neighbor there for twelve years. In both locations he was one of the finest men I have ever met.
