Therol McArthur Obituary

Therol Lynn McArthur 1918 ~ 2007 Therol Lynn McArthur passed away early Saturday morning, May 26, 2007. He lived a full life surrounded by friends, and he was the champion of all people. Therol was born October 7, 1918 in St. George, Utah to Valentine and Afton McNeil McArthur, their eldest of six children. On April 5, 1939 he married his sweetheart, Bernice Mills, and they were later sealed together in the St. George LDS temple with their four children. He served as a sergeant in the Army during World War II in charge of transporting soldiers from the U.S. to their overseas assignments. He attended Dixie College and LDS Business College, and served as an accountant for the Union Pacific Railroad and Utah Woolen Mills. He moved to Cedar City in 1948 to work for Lunt Motor Company, where he was the Operations Manager for 57 years, retiring at the age of 86. During his tenure there, Therol received many top salesmanship awards from Chrysler Corp. and developed a multitude of lasting friendships among his customers. He donated much of his time to building community resources. He was a leader, serving as a charter member for the Cedar City Kiwanis Club, PTA President, Chamber of Commerce President, and little league coach. Everywhere he went, Therol was known for his enormous generosity to family, friends, and strangers. He was a personable man who always remembered details about people's lives and made friends easily. He dedicated most of his personal resources to change the lives of the people around him, and he expressed pride in the accomplishments of his friends and family. Therol loved to laugh. His friends and family will never forget his charity or his corny jokes. Therol cherished his membership in the LDS Church and served in many callings, including bishopric counselor, high councilor, ward clerk, teacher, and home teacher. He was a dedicated reader of the words of LDS apostles and scholars, and he loved sharing the joy he gained from his faith in Jesus Christ and the restoration of His Gospel. He is survived by his daughters, Sharol Lynn Janosik (Paul) of Las Vegas and Tamra Bolander (Ronald) of Sandy; daughter-in-law, Linda McArthur of Las Vegas; brother, Marion (Phyllis) of Sacramento; sister, Elma Ann Snow (Ted) of, St. George; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife; son, Glade; daughter, Tacy; and siblings, Virginia, Ronald and LaRaine. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 2, 12:00 noon at the LDS Church, 460 West 400 North, Cedar City, Utah. A viewing will be held at the same location Friday, June 1st from 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. Online condolences at www.larkinmortuary.com

Therol thanks for being the great person you are. I enjoyed your company for 30 years and always looked forward to visiting you at Lunt Motors not so much to buy as to visit with you. Will miss you. Gerry

Uncle Therol,
What a great man and example you have been to me and my family. I know you are enjoying a great reunion with those who have been waiting for your arrival! I can hardly imagine the joy, laughter, jokes, and tears that are filling the heavenly air! We have loved you so much, and appreciated your many calls checking up on all of us over the years! You have certainly been the family patriarch for many years and we love you for that! We will miss you immensely, but we'll try to live up to your great legacy! Love you forever!

Grandpa,
It's really hard to believe that you are gone. You seemed to always have so much energy and joy for life that I really thought you would out live us all. I really cherished every moment I spent with you. Little old Cedar City Utah has always seemed like such a magical place to me because of you. I have never met or heard of another man that was as giving, caring, thoughtful, funny, charming, and positively encouraging as you. I'm not just saying that because you're my Grandpa either. I worshipped everything about you. The fact you were the first ever QB for Dixie State College's football team and a standout on the basketball team was pretty cool and pretty impressive, even for those days, LOL. To me you were the greatest car salesman in the history of the world. Your honesty was very rare for that field. I could go on and on forever but I better quit here. You have always been my real life hero, and you were my daddy's hero also. I want to be just like you Grandpa. I will do my best to honor your great name.
Love,
Darren McArthur

Grandpa,

I always was excited to exchange corny jokes with you.
You could put a smile on any face. So many of us
admired your characteristics, and wish for them in
ourselves. I am grateful to have had you always
looking out for me, "tell those boys, I may be old,
but I still have one hard punch left in me!" I still
always think of you when I eat at Olive Garden. I will
remember and miss you always.

Anyone who had the opportunity to know Therol (Grandpa) knows that it would be difficult to find the adequate words to honor his life and passing. He was a man with many qualities that I still strive to develop within myself. He will be missed here, but anxiously awaited on the other side. We'll see you again Grandpa!

Dear Family,
Somewhere in the hills east of Cedar City Ani-ma is shedding a tear. Miss Rush Lake is heart broken. While I am not certain that Brouse take down Pintura this year, we can always hope. Dad was a "contender not a pretender." The home is quiet now and I will miss him more than words can say. His love of and dedication to family, church, and country was inspiring. Therol's acts of kindness, courage, and generosity will always be remembered. Even in his last days, I was still learning things from him. Little lessons of life that I hope to be able to pass on to my family. I know that his joyous reunion with loved ones is still ongoing while those of us left behind have a high legecy to live up to. I love you and miss you.

Grandpa McArthur was a special person,as a "brother" of Kevin. I will miss the way he could make me laugh and all of the entertaining stories he told me when I was fortunate enough to be in his presence. He was always able to put a smile on anyone's face and I've never met a more generous person who was sure that he did everything he could for everyone else. I wish the best to the McArthurs and the Bolanders during this time of passing. I will surely miss Grandpa! His captivating stories and his dynamic character will definitely never be forgotten!

The world is surely a more quiet and less dynamic place today with Therol's passing! I grew up listening to the "Joe Bush" Lunt Motor radio commercials on KSUB...and the feeling that Browse surely had a good enough team to beat Pintura this year! Is there anyone in Southwestern Utah that hasn't bought a car from Therol? I served in the church with Therol in the "new" Cedar City North Stake and was inspired by his enthusiasm for the work. Thank you Therol for your positive example!

Grandpa,

You were a shining example to us all in word and deed in this life. I enjoyed your cheery disposition. Thank you for your endless charity, love, and generosity toward all of us. You traveled many miles for various family activities and functions. You achieved your goals. You were a hard worker and go-getter, working longer than anyone I have ever known or heard of. You were personable, and loved us all individually. You told me of the man that stole your wallet, "He probably needed it more than I did." God be with you till' we meet again.

Dear Grandpa,
It's so hard to believe that a person with so much spunk and zest has left this life. You have been one of the most amazing people in my life. Thank you for taking care of us after dad died. You are so much more to us than a grandpa.
When you had the choice to sit it out or dance, you danced. (With two left feet, but you still did it!)
Love always,
Kristen, David, McKenna & Karli
