Tami Adkins Obituary

Adkins, Tami Jo Denise 48 5/21/1961 2/1/2010 Tami Jo Denise Adkins, 48, from Scappoose, passed away Feb. 1, 2010, at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital & Health Center in Portland, surrounded by her family and friends. Tami Jo's parents, Orvin and Janet Drangstveit, brought Tami into this world with great joy May 21, 1961, in Grand Forks, N.D. Tami married Norman Adkins Oct. 6, 1990, and they had three boys, her pride and joy, Lance, 17; Kyler, 16; and Carson, 15. Tami graduated from Wilson High School in 1979, graduated from beauty school in 1981 and went on to become a very talented hair dresser. Tami loved art and always had a new art project going. She was so creative and could make anything beautiful. She loved music and to dance the night away. She loved her Pekingese dogs and you would often find her with a camera in hand. Tami was always there for you when you needed her-or even if you didn't. Tami was a wonderful homemaker and her boys gave her great happiness. She was so proud of them; they were her everything. Tami Jo was full of life and always good for a great story and an excellent laugh. Tami loved being with family and friends. She loved to go fishing, camping, to the beach and up to the mountains. Tami left behind her husband, Norman Adkins; her boys, Lance, Kyler and Carson; parents, Orvin and Janet Drangstveit; her sister, Melody; brother, Dion, and his wife, Kathy; nieces, Tara and Lauran; nephews, Michael, Justin, Brian, Hunter and Ryder; father-in-law, Ron; and brothers-in-law, Neil and Ronald. Tami's celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday Feb. 6, 2010, in St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 6835 S.W. 45th Ave., Portland, OR 97219. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Lance, Kyler and Carson 's educational fund at U.S. Bank. From Tami's journal: "Lord, how I love you! For you have done such tremendous things for me." (Psalm 18:1-3) Tami and her smile and laughter will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Our loss is her gain.

Here is a poem that fits perfectly -

Don't think of her as gone away
Her journey has just begun
Life holds many facets
The Earth is only one
Just think of her as resting
From the sorrows and the tears
In a place of warmth and comfort
Where there are no days and years
Think how she must be wishing
That we could know today
How nothing but our sadness
can really pass away
And think of her as living
In the hearts of those she touched
For nothing loved is ever lost-
And she was loved so much.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Tami Jo was so sweet and full of life. She had such a warm and endearing presence, it always made you happy to be around her. She had such a sparkle and zest for life. I lost touch with her after high school but it sounds like she had a lot of love in her life, all her life. It is a sad time on earth, but there is much celebration going on in heaven. My best to her family.

I only met Tami a few times while I was living as their neighbors. I never once saw her going 'slow' she was always in high gear and involved with one project or another. She has raised 3 wonderful boy's #young men# and her kindness will always be visable through her boys. My heart goes out to Norm and the 3 young gentlemen that she raised.

So many fond memories of TJ, even after all these years.
She and I were close for a time during our senior year at Wilson High. Tami Jo had more spirit, compassion, and zest for life than anyone I had ever met. She made everyone feel special, and would do anything for anybody regardless.

Peace and love to you TJ....

To Orvin & Janet and Norman and family,
I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Tami Jo. I went to high school with her and lived 2 houses up from Orvin & Janet for several years. She was a sweetheart and I am so sorry for you loss. I lost my younger brother Jack this past year so I can tell you that I do know what you are going through. There is nothing harder, but you will get through it. Hopefully all your wonderful, happy memories of her will carry you through. Sorry that I cannot attend the service as I live out of state.
