Susan Darnell Obituary

Susan "Sue" M. Darnell, 68, of Salisbury passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, February 12, 2026 after years of fighting cancer. Born in New Rochelle, NY, she was the daughter of the late John and Jean Milligan.

Sue dedicated more than thirty years to education as a beloved teacher in Laurel. She taught first grade at Dunbar Elementary School before later serving as a reading specialist prior to her retirement. She also served as Vice President for the Laurel Education Association. Sue was a creative and inspiring educator who poured her heart into her classroom. She loved baking treats for her students and creating a warm, welcoming environment where children felt encouraged and adored her in return.

Sue earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Maine and went on to receive her master's degree with a specialization in reading from Long Island University.

Outside of her career, Sue enjoyed reading, hiking, and staying active later in life. She loved to travel, especially with her sister. She had a creative spirit, a generous heart, and a deep appreciation for life's simple joys.

She is survived by her son, Chris Darnell of Palm Springs, CA; her sister, Eileen Manitsas; her brothers, John Milligan (Idalia) and Douglas Milligan (Terri); three nieces and one nephew; a great-niece and great-nephew; her beloved cat, Louie; and a host of amazing friends who supported her in recent years, her cherished "army."

Sue will be remembered for her kindness, creativity, dedication to her students, and the lasting impact she made on all who knew her.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
