What can I say.. just learned of her passing by reading this today. She made a great impression on my life. Throughout my life I was always wondering what she was doing. I met her at Sac State along with Lee and Sarah who have written here. What memories! Tennis was our life and continued to be for many years later and many tournaments as a player and as a tournament director. I joined the college
team with few skills and left with many! Her life influenced so many!!

I have just learned of the passing of Sue Shrader. Sue was my "last" tennis coach at Sac State back in 1982 when I was awarded an extra year of eligibility to play for the tennis team. We had such a wonderful team led by an extraordinary coach and wonderful human being. I will never forget our trip back to Edwardsville to play in the Division II tennis championship. We all had so much fun! Rest In Peace my friend. Many hugs! Paty

Learning of her passing late, but her impact on the game of tennis as a life-time sport was great. I'm so appreciative of her lessons and encouragement for my early years at CSU Sac. I remember she loved Bette Midler and regifted her old trophies to her players for encouragement and recognition! She created many lasting memories for the many she helped and guided.

Sue was one of my youngest daughter's tennis instructors, for the past few years. She was kind, thoughtful and extremely patient with all the children she came in contact with. We knew her for a short time but felt her warmth and kindness in every interaction we had. My condolences to her family.

So sorry to hear about Sue's passing. She was my tennis instructor for several years but also a kind ear. One time I asked her about getting better at tennis and she said "Don't be only a student in class. You want to be a student of the game." She was right but I was privileged to be her student all the same.

Sue was my friend, coach & teacher mentor at CSU, Sacramento. She saved me too, by allowing me teach at Rio Del Oro and helping me to succeed as a player/teacher. The "what do you have to lose" mentality, helped me gain confidence that I very much needed. RIP Sue, you will be missed!

Although we were never close friends I remember you well as we both played tennis and learn to swim at the Sutter Lawn Tennis Club in the good ol' East Sacramento neighborhood. Deep Condolences, James (Jim) Koewler

I can start out by saying Sue Shrader saved my life without even knowing it. She was an amazing tennis coach. She approached me (barely any tennis below my belt) to try out for a tennis team with her fellow coach Joe Lyden. I reluctantly said to here I wasn't good enough and she said "well what do you have to lose?" and I headed to "tryouts". It was just two of us, and it was so much fun I couldn't wait to go back. I told everyone I knew to try out and join this team as we needed 12 to get going. Within a month, we had more than enough players and we went on to win the playoffs two years later.
Sue came to my parties when she could. She was the first one to show up and I just knew to have that diet coke ready for her when she came.
We were sad to hear that Sue had left the club after she was injured, but really just assumed she would be bouncing back in and back on our lives.
I recently found myself at practice about three weeks ago and had a seizure on the tennis court. I found out after that I have lung cancer that had spread to my brain. LUCKILY I was not driving. LUCKILY I was on court with 20 of my friends and my coach Joe. I can't help but think that tennis saved my life. If I didn't have that seizure, I wouldn't know that I had this at all. I am getting the treatment I need because I know.
Some may think it is a long shot, but trickle that story down and it all comes down to one person. Sue Shrader.
I know she is watching over us now. I know never, ever - ever - ever double fault during a tiebreaker. And if need be, serve that ball in underhand just get it in the box.
I will miss you dearly Sue. You were loved. Thank you.

Coach Susan encouged me to join a team when I dropped in for the Matinee Tennis at Midtown. That thought was always in my mind and now because of that I'm part of a wonderful indoor tennis group at Midtown. Your relaxed, kind and thoughtful encouragement will be missed. To Susan's family and friends my deepest condolences. Peace.
