Stephanie Riva Obituary

Riva, Stephanie (nee Budzinski), Age 94, of Downers Grove. Beloved wife of the late Joseph. Loving mother of Rev. Gerald Riva and David (Sandie) Riva. Grandmother of Matthew (Meghan). Sister of Stanley (late Violet), Sr. Petronia O.S.F., Helen (late Walter) Ganiec and the late Joseph (late Genevieve), late Eugene (Eugenia), late Josephine (late Frank) Kolasinski, late Agnes (late Edward) Slowikowski, late baby Mary, and the late Bernice (late Joseph) Bedus. Loving aunt of many. Daughter of the late Catherine and Peter Budzinski. She lived a full life of 94 plus years. A native of Chicago's southwest side, she moved to Downers Grove in 1951. Her last working years were in the insurance business. In retirement, she was a great helping hand to all she met. She was an active member of St. Joseph parish in Downers Grove and then St. Scholastica parish in Woodridge, where, her son is Pastor. She was very involved with the Council of Catholic Women, was their Woman of the Year in 2008 and used to read one-on-one with the primary students in the school. She will forever be noted for her banana cake and English toffee. As Stephanie celebrated life to its fullest, the family requests that you wear bright colors to her wake and funeral. Visitation 3 to 9pm Sunday at St. Scholastica Church, 7800 Janes Avenue in Woodridge where the funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Monday. A reception will immediately follow in the school gym. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Scholastica Grade School Tuition Assistance Fund would be appreciated. "To know her was to love her". I will remember the gentle spirit and helpful nature of Stephanie, and will always remember her as an exceptionally special and giving person. I particularly remember the time when my life took a very deep dive down, She was there for me with open door and heart. Thank you "Ciocia Stef". Love you always.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Riva family. Mrs. Riva and my mom, Olga, were best friends for many years and even after we moved away my mom talked of her often. I'm sure they are enjoying each others company once again.
