Sophie Enenstein Obituary

Enenstein, Sophie (nee Sherman), 87 of Chicago, died Saturday, January 7, 2006. She is survived by her children, Louis (Diana) Enenstein, Sandra (Don) Starrett and Richard Enenstein; grandchildren, Jennifer (Ramiro) Castelan, Kristin and Kira Enenstein and Lauren Starrett; sister, Gert (Sol) Kesselman and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sol; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Sam (Rose), Phillip (Annette) and Morris Sherman and her granddaughter, Alissa Beth Enenstein. Graveside services Thursday, 2 p.m. at Waldheim Cemetery (Gate 203, Row 1F Proskurover Section, along the far north end of the cemetery), Harlem Ave., 1 block south of 16th St., Forest Park. I met Sophie in a music theory class at the People's Music School a little over a year ago. I'm sorry I was never fortunate enough to hear her play the piano, but I heard from the other students and instructors that she was an amazing pianist. We had a few laughs together, and I'm very glad I had a chance to know her!

Sophie and I sang together in the North Shore Choral Society, and she was a doll. I used to love to sponsor her on her walk for Israel, which she walked for so many years. My sincere condolences on the loss of a very lovely lady.

When I saw Sophie's name in the paper today, many memories emerged.

I knew Sophie well, because she was a member of the Grandparent Discussion Group I led at Oakton Community College during the late 80's and early 90's. We met monthly, except for summers, for over 8 years,

For a number of years Sophie kept in touch by letting me know when she was doing walks/runs for charity. I so admired her zest for life, determination, and unusual physical strength.

Please accept my deepest sympathy on Sophie's death.
