Shirley Renslow Obituary
Shirley Louise (Rice) Renslow, daughter of Cecil Albert and Lola Mae (Casteel) Rice, was born Sept. 15, 1935 at home in Arko, Mo.
She entered into rest on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010 at Hamburg, with family and friends present.
Shirley was raised in Nodaway County, Mo. in her early years. The family then moved to Riverton. During her school years, she participated in basketball as a guard and softball as a pitcher and band as a drummer. She graduated from the Riverton High School with the Class of 1954.
On June 9, 1954 Shirley Louise Rice and Donald Dean Renslow were united in marriage in Sidney.
Shirley and Dean settled in Shenandoah after living in Riverton for a year where they raised their four children, Shirlene, Marvin, Melvin and Shellie.
Her interests were her family and friends, which involved PTA, Girl Scouts, bowling, softball and band. She was a volunteer coach in the bowling leagues in Shenandoah for over 40 years, and was involved with the Senior Center where she enjoyed playing cards and socializing with her many friends.
She was self-employed as a daycare provider for five years. She was later hired by Henry Fields Nurseries and worked seasonally until the company closed. Shirley also worked for Gurney Seed Company when they took over the Henry Field Nursery Operation.
Shirley was preceded in death by her mother, Lola Mae Rice; father, Cecil Albert Rice; husband, Donald Dean Renslow; brother, Edward Eugene Rice; and son, Marvin Dean Renslow.
Shirley is survived by three children, Shirlene D. Thiesfeld of Colorado, Melvin D. Renslow and wife Brenda of Utah and Shellie R. Renslow and fiancé Phil Lofgren of Nebraska; 11 grandchildren, Jason L. Peregrine and wife Andrea, Jennifer D. Feltner and husband Aaron, Tyler D. Renslow, Kaley A. Renslow, Whitney J. Lewis and husband Ashley Lewis, Brooke M. Renslow, Lacey K. Renslow, Chad D. Renslow, Cami L. Renslow, Amber C. Eitzen, Brandelyn E. Eitzen; three great-grandchildren, Isabella M. Peregrine, Cecilia K. Peregrine and Kylie A. Feltner. Also surviving is a sister, Joan Meek of Iowa; other relatives, Terri Schiller and daughters Paige and Haille; Cindy Niykky and Petteri Niykki and children Niko, Dalton and Caitlyn; nephews Michael Garreans and his sons, Billy and Joshua and Tony Rice.
Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 27, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Shenandoah with Rev. Gary Fuller officiating.
Attending to the memorial register were Linda Anderson and Barb Taylor.
Serving as ushers were Dean Adcock and Junior Taylor. Kaley Renslow was the soloist and Carolee Rees played the piano. Casket Bearers for the service included Jason Peregrine, Phil Lofgren, Aaron Fethner, Tyler Renslow, Mike Garreans, Mike Peregrine, Tony Rice and Jeff Hiser.
Burial followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
