Sherry O'Brien Obituary

SHERRY H. O'BRIEN
GROTON - Sherry H. O'Brien, of Groton, NY, passed away unexpectedly July 10, 2009.
Born July 30, 1946 in Locke, NY, he was a son of Melba Barhite Figgolari.
Sherry was a longtime resident of the Groton area, graduating from Groton High School and shortly after was drafted and served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968 stationed in El Paso, Texas.
After serving in the armed forces, he returned to Groton and worked at Smith Corona for many years, leaving to open his own business as O'Briens Used Cars. The last few years, his disabilities have not limited him to continue the many passions of his life, including mowing his lawn, working on special projects and keeping the flower gardens looking beautiful.
Family and friends will remember Sherry for his expertise in auto mechanics, his love of trucks and the many conversations in the "garage."
Sherry is survived by his close companion, Doreen Silva; his daughter, Sherry Ann Lent of Cortland; his sons, Patrick Swayze, Groton, Michael Swayze, South Otselic; his brothers, David (Carol) O'Brien, North Carolina, John (Myrna) O'Brien, Florida; his sisters, Rose (Curtiss) Wright, Freeville, Margie Cargill, Pennsylvania, Joanne (Mark) Sautter, Marathon, and Gloria (Darryl) Figgolari-Duge of Rochester; a sister-in-law, Carolyn O'Brien of Etna; his grandchildren, Nichole, Austin, Alexander, Victoria, Amanda, Matthew and Katelyn; two great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Nathan; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
His mother, Melba Figgolari; a son, Mark O'Brien; brothers, Louie O'Brien and Edward O'Brien; an aunt, Aline Silcox, predeceased him.
A private family gathering is planned for a later date. Donations may be made in Sherry H. O'Brien's name at the First National Bank of Groton, 161 Main Street, Groton, NY 13073.
Zirbel Funeral Home, 115 Williams Street, Groton, has care of arrangements.

I will always miss you. I lost precious time with you while I was in Ohio and I hate that I will never get that back. You were more than a grandfather to me you were a close and dear friend. Always to be remembered and loved in all our hearts.

To Rose and the entire family. Sherry was like a son to me, when he was a little boy, he sat on my lap for hours each time I visited your Mother. Will miss seeing him now and then as I have in later years. What a shock this is to us. Stella and Covert Alvord (aunt stella to Rose and Curtiss.)
