Sharon Goshorn Obituary

Sharon, Goshorn

Sharon Goshorn was a caring mother, grandmother, wife, daughter sister & friend. Sharon passed away on April 23rd, 2022 at the age of 69.

She was born to Vera & William Swigart on March 27, 1953 in Evergreen Park, Il. After graduating from Evergreen Park High School, Sharon chased her dreams of being a nurse. She first started as an Operating Room Technician after earning her certificate at Moraine Valley and then and received her Registered Nurse degree from South Chicago College. After college, Sharon met her husband Jim at a disco studio dancing the night away. Together, they had 2 children: Michael & Jessica, and went on to be married for 31 years. Sharon worked many years as a nurse at hospitals including Central Community Hospital in Chicago & St Francis in Blue Island. She eventually moved into elementary school nursing at Kolmar Elementary in Oak Lawn followed by Irene H King Elementary in Romeoville. She was always focused on bettering herself through education, getting her Bachelor's degree in Nursing from Lewis University & Master's Degree in Education from Governor's State College all while working and having two kids at home.

Sharon retired at the age of 61 and very much enjoyed spending her winters on the beach. Her grandchildren Dean, Faye, James & Vera were the light of her life, and nothing was better to her than being a grandma.

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband James (Jim), mother Vera Swigart (Carman), father William Swigart, mother-in-law Patricia Goshorn (Dorsey), and father-in-law Robert Goshorn.

A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, May 13th 2022 at New Hope Church located at 5100 W 115th St Alsip, IL 60803. The Visitation hours will be 4-6pm, with the Memorial Service starting at 6pm. A Nurses' Nightingale Tribute will be included in the Memorial Service. Sharon loved to help others, and regularly donated to South Suburban PADS (sspads.org) and Neat Repeats (crisisctr.org). Donations to either organization and/or New Hope Church in her name would be greatly appreciated.

I am so very sad to learn of Sharon´s passing. My deepest sympathy to Mike & Jessica & her grandchildren.
Sharon & I worked together at St. Francis for many years. She always had a smile to give. We played bunco together with a group of friends and
shared stories & jokes. Sharon was a special lady and I will miss her presence on this earth. May she be blessed with joy and peace in the house of our Lord.

So sorry for the loss of your beloved mother Jess and Mike. Both you and your children were the light of her life but I know she is rejoicing with Jesus in the heavens above. She loved her God very much too. I will miss my travel buddy who loved to hike with me to see waterfalls and lighthouses and the time we drove out to the middle of the dessert at midnight to see the stars in Sedona. So many memories that it would take a book to fill but she was always just so easy to be with. Sorry for all the photos, but Sharon understands that I liked to take a lot of photos! Miss you my friend, I have nobody to play Words with Friends with. God Bless your family always!

Being a school nurse is a full scheduled day, but Sharon never turned away a child who just wanted and needed TLC. She went above and beyond to treat students who were not just injured or sick, but to help them brush their hair, teeth, clean up, and give them love.
