My deepest sympathies to Saul's wonderful family. I was a friend of Saul's in my college days at NIU. I pledged Phi Kappa Theta fraternity with Saul and was a close friend of his during college and shortly thereafter. Saul lived on my floor two doors down from me on the third floor and we would often go out for food or to party. He was one of my closest friends at the house and liked by all. He was a wonderful and sincere person - one of the best I have ever known. I am sorry to say that I have only found out about his death upon hearing the news through old friends at NIU's homecoming last weekend. I would have surely cleared my schedule to attend the wake and funeral. I have so many great memories of him and regret that I had not kept in touch with him in the past several years. Ironically I was googleing Sauls name and a few others several weeks ago trying to locate him and see if he was going to homecoming this year. Saul was truley a wonderful person and I will remember him always.

I will always remember Saul as a wonderful person with a magnetic personality. Having gone through the Chicago Police Academy with him and having experienced the joy of hearing his jokes and laughter, I will truly miss him as a friend.

It was my good fortune and privilege to know Saul for about a year at Northern Illinois University. We became freinds through our membership in the Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity. Saul had a wonderful sense of humor and had the ability to improve the spirits of anyone he spent time with. Please know that the thoughts and prayers of our family are with his.

It has been an extremely long time since I have spoken with Saul or his brother Hugo, but I wanted to pass along my sympathies to the Contreras family.
I remember being over at the Contreras household after school and listening to Hugo and Saul argue in Spanish. I learned quite a bit of Spanish, but unfortunately none of that could be used in school.
It is common for childhood friends to lose touch over the years, but that doesn't mean the memories are lost. Saul you will be missed.

In a world filled with cynicism and negativety meeting someone with pure and genuine character is a rarity. Having the opportunity to be friends with such a person is a true gift. I am proud to have known Saul and I wish him eternal peace.

In the breif 16 months that I have known Saul, I feel that it has been my priviledge to serve with such a fine Officer, and a better friend. In our profession, one accepts that sudden death is too often a reality, but it seldom stays forward in your mind when working. Saul always managed to find the humor (often dry) in the worst of our situations, and even more humor in our best situations. A loyal friend, a trusted comrade, and the best compliment one Officer can pay to another.......Saul was the REAL POLICE. Rest in peace, Saul, and watch over your brothers......

I think we are all still in shock that such a wonderful person as Saul could be taken from us. Saul was more than just a friend to me, more than just a brother in blue, we had a bond together like family. Saul added so many positive things to other people's lives, and asked for nothing in return. I can truly say that we always had good times together, be it a quick chat on the nextel while both of us were working the street, hitting the Chicago hotspots chasing girls, or just hanging out with our friends. You will be missed my brother and I truly hope that all of the dreams you shared with me come true on the other side for you. I'll miss you, God Bless.
