Sam Luterman Obituary

LUTERMAN, SAM, Born October 12, 1908 in Poland. Passed away July 2, 2005 at the dignified age of 96. As a young man, he worked for Republic National Bank and ran a "Hat Check" business at night. He and his wife later opened the "Small Fry Children's Shop" and then the "Cinderella Shoppes," which they ran until retirement. He was a volunteer for SCORE, a branch of the Small Business Administration. He was devoted to his religion and was an active member in his synagogue, Congregation Shearith Israel. Sam always said, "The key to success was to get an education." After retirement he completed coursework in horticulture and kept himself busy in his spare time working countless hours on his greenhouse, where he grew everything from orchids to tomatoes. He was preceded in death by his son, Norman Luterman. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Dorothy Luterman; his daughter and son-in-law, Elaine & Carl Solomon; son and daughter-in-law Gerald & Cindy Luterman; daughter-in-law Mary Anne Luterman. Grandchildren include Jill & Brett Levy, Lisa Solomon & fiance Eric Ginsburg, Greg & Marlene Luterman, Bradley & Dana Luterman, Zachary & Allana Luterman. Great-Grandchildren Jake, Benjamin, Ariana, & Gabrielle. Special thanks to his caregivers Rosalind Hobbs, LaQuita Clark, Libby Brownrigg, and all the wonderful people of 25th Hour. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Congregation Shearith Education Fund or the charity of choice.
