My sincere condolences on Sam's passing.
I just heard about it. He was like a second father to me, I started to work for him 1 year after I came to the US, I almost did not speak English at that time, he helped me, he gave me the car to use and he was very kind to me, I will never forget about his kindness. He had a big heart and I will always remember him.

Dear Helen & Family,

My sincere condolences on Sam's passing. Sam was instrumental in helping me follow my passion and telling me to go to real estate school. He knew it was important to me and after I received my license and I told him I could no longer be his real estate paralegal, he was proud of my accomplishments and wished me well. We stayed friends all of these years and when I think of Sam I think of a man who loved his family more than anything. A character who truly loved helping others is how I will always remember him. May his memory always be a blessing.
Sincerely,
Sheryl Rue-Borden

Sam hired me as a legal intern during my first year at Kent Law, in 1985. We left Golf Road after he developed Lake Avenue Professional Building in Wilmette. Sam was, above all else, fiercely protective of everyone he employed. We all became family. My best memory occurred the week after I passed the bar. I had been the brunt of a condescending and abusive attorney, and felt dejected and humiliated. He walked into my office the next day and told me that opposing counsel had called to apologize. Although I doubted that was true, I felt a massive wave of appreciation for Sam's caring gesture. What did I love about Sam? Everything. I admired his intellect, quick wit, biting humor, candor, deep loyalty to family and colleagues and his willingness to teach. Sam mentored his employees the way he mentored his own children. I am one of the privileged few who were admitted to the inner sanctum and benefitted immensely from his thoughts, ideas, and brilliant legal mind. I had the privilege of seeing him a few years ago while he completed a spec home in Malibu. I already miss him enormously. Thank you, Sam, for our incredible friendship and for the profound influence you had on me professionally.

To Helen and Family...
I am so sorry to hear of Sam's passing. As you know, I served with Sam on the D219 Board of Education. Sam was always larger than life. And he was one of the most generous people I've ever met. He was always looking forward to helping others. And that's what defined him as a Board Member of D219. He was fun, funny and smart. A rare combination indeed. Sam and I talked nearly every morning when he served on the D219 Board. I still miss those calls.

Rest in Peace, my friend.

There are not enough words to express the feelings in my Heart to describe how we feel about The Dearest Most Wonderful Friend, Consultant, and Generous Kindest Man I have ever met in my Life. Sam as Unique as he was, when I spoke about anything serious, he listened intently, and then in a very few powerful words, my answers were given. He was always there for our entire family. May he Rest In Peace. Sam, We Will Forever Keep You in Our Heart and Deeply Cherish and Feel Blessed that we were in Your Circle of Thousands Who Loved You and Respected All You Did for Soooo Soooo Many! Our Deepest Sympathy to all your Family. Your Super Children Randy, Daniel, and Ricki and your Beautiful and Patient Kind Loving Wife Helen.

I believe I met Helen at the same moment that Sam saw her. It was a beach party in our teen years. Sam turned to me and said something like "this is the girl of my dreams." He was instantaneously in love, and that love lasted for 41 wonderful years. Sam had great passion for family and all that he did. As the artist Emile Zola once said, he "lived life out loud."
