Ruthanne Mason Obituary

Mason, Ruthanne Died peacefully on Tuesday, August 16, 2005, at the age of 87. Ruthanne was born in Tallahassee, Florida, the daughter of Ruth Reynolds and George Ames. She had two sisters, Harriet Hoaglund, Jane Shawhan and a brother, Melvin (Bud) Norris, all of whom are deceased. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert (Bob) Mason; her children, Robert (Eloise) Mason, Michael (Judy) Mason and Honey (Steve) Walters; her grandchildren, Heather, Robert, Mitchell, Chet, Brian, and Amanda; and her new great-grandchild, Katelyn. She spent most of her life in the Chicago area. She grew up in Riverside and attended Riverside-Brookfield High School. After high school she studied Nursing at Henrotin Hospital in Chicago. While being a stay at home Mother when the kids were growing up, Ruthanne was extremely active. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, Member of the District 60 School Board, founding member of the Church of the Holy Nativity and head of their Alter Guild for many years, member of P.E.O., and always active in her family's life. After her children were all in High School, Ruthanne returned to work as a Registered Nurse at the Cook County Tuberculosis Sanitarium for many years. Ruthanne was a wonderful cook, always trying different cuisines. An avid gardener and flower arranger, Ruthanne made sure that beauty and nature were integral parts of her family's life. She always leaned toward the oriental, paying attention to the simplistic and the beauty of life. She was a lady who looked to the finer details that make life interesting and fun. Bob and Ruthanne traveled extensively. They visited friends in Japan and traveled Europe and as far away as Turkey. They also enjoyed traveling in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Together they explored places near and far from home. There will be two memorial services for Ruthanne. The first one will be at King Bruwaert House (6101 South County Line Road, Burr Ridge, Illinois, 630-655-7000), where Bob and Ruthanne have resided for the past six years. The service will be at 10 a.m., in their Great Lounge on Monday, August 22, 2005. The second service will be held at their church – Church of the Holy Nativity (275 S. Richmond, Clarendon Hills, Illinois, 630-323-6820) on Saturday, September 24th, at 11 a.m. Interment will be a private ceremony at Clarendon Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make memorials to Health Care Program at King Bruwaert House or The Church of the Holy Nativity.
