Before we were married, Joyce and I dated. Once, while picking her up, it was very cold outside.
Russ, noticing I was not wearing a hat, insisted I take a knit cap to keep warm. "Keep it", he said. "You're going to need it!"
I have kept, and worn, that hat all these years. It was the start of the many kind and generous things he did for us and our family.
You have always been, and always will, be loved by all who have met you.
We are sad to lose you, but know that God sent a legion of angels to welcome you to your eternal reward.

Though I did not know your father, I can tell he was a very special person. My prayers are for you, your family and friends during this time. The Lord's mercies are new every morning and things will get better as time progresses. I encourage you, your family and friends to remember the good times you shared with him and I know he will be missed.

To the Townsend family...
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of "Russ"
I don't know if any of you remember me but I'm Mike LaPorta.
We used to live next door to each other on Winchester Ave. in Chicago.
Your brother Danny was my best friend.
For YEARS I've been trying to find where Danny was buried as I've been wanting to pay my respects to him every time I come "home" but I can never remember where he's buried.
For some reason I decieded to try to find him today and I found this.
After all these years, I'm so sorry this had to be the way I find you all.
I've always respected your Dad, he helped me in many ways growing up....
-Helping me and Danny build a go cart,
-Fixing the fence between our houses every time I broke it trying to dive in your pool,
-Helping us find the softball after one of us hit it over a garage during one of our games we'd play in alley,
-Walking with me to the corner house on 68th. st because the only way I could get on my bike was to use the fence on the corner as leverage and he didn't want me to walk down there by myself because my Dad wasn't home from work yet.
I have so many memories of him, Pat and Grandma trying to keep the "Italian kid" in line.
Russ, Pat and you all were truely an extended family to me.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
May God bless and keep you.
Your long lost friend from long ago.

Dear Dad and Mom,
I may not been one of your own, but you welcomed me into your family long ago and have been treating me as one of your own. That has meant more to me than words can ever say. Dad, I love you and miss you already. Mom, I love you and will keep on visiting you as always as I love you as my own Mom.
Love you all very much.

Dad,
Thank you for teaching me to enjoy life and to live it to the fullest. You were a great example of how important family and friends are to us. You have showed me how to share my feelings and to laugh, love and cry.
Thanks Dad - I love you.
