Mr. Evans commenced a railroad sales career with the Southern Railway System in Atlanta in 1956 and retired from Norfolk Southern Corporation in Chicago as National Sales Manager in 1993. He served two years in the Army at Ft. Benning, GA. After retiring from his railroad career in 1993, Russ became an avid volunteer at the Brookfield Zoo where he was awarded several recognitions including the Volunteer of the Year in 1999. His sports passion was the Chicago Bulls where he was a season ticket holder from 1974 until 2018. Russ and I met when I joined Christ Church Chancl Choir in 1985. Such a fine southern gentleman he was and such an interesting man.
He was always a glass half full person, that's for sure!
His love for Jesus came shining through him.
He was especially kind to my grandson, Danny. I brought Danny to church as young as a few months. As Danny got older I could count on Russ making him feel so welcomed.
Danny is now 34 yrs. old and lives with a mental condition.
Russ has never stopped asking about Dan, all the time.
Russ, I am sure the angels were there to escort you to meet Jesus! And I bet God may have some jobs for you to take on. We always could count on you!
You will be missed so very much.
Much love to you dear friend,
Susan Nolan

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. Russ volunteered at Brookfield Zoo and during my employment there, we became friends. Russ was such a kind and generous man. He took my teenage son, many times, to Chicago Bulls games. And always offered a word of encouragement to me. Russ has finished his race, and is now in the presence of our Lord and Savior! He will be missed.
