Rose Reed Obituary

Rose Mary Reed ELIZABETHTOWN Rose Mary (Murphy) Reed, 87, formerly of Carlisle passed away on September 6, 2007, at Masonic Village in Elizabethtown. Born in Boston, Mass., she was the daughter of the late James and Mary E. Murphy. She was lucky to have a second mom, Emma Dorothy Murphy. Mrs. Reed received her nursing degree from Butler Hospital in Providence, R.I., in 1944. She then joined the Army Nurse Corps and served at several posts in the United States. Later, as a second lieutenant she served in Malvern, England, using both her industrial and psychiatric nursing specialties. Also while serving in the military, she met Harry W. Reed, M.D. After World War II, Dr. and Mrs. Reed had a family practice clinic in Fredericksburg, Lebanon County. Being very active in the Lebanon County community, she was a member of the ParentTeachers Association, served as den mother for the Boy Scouts, and was a member of several committees for nearby medical facilities. She also volunteered for the Head Start Program in Lebanon, the Good Samaritan Hospital fundraising events and was involved in an international student exchange program. Mrs. Reed loved God, family and friends. She enjoyed reading, drama, music, traveling, gardening and craft shows. Surviving in addition to her second mom, Emma, are her loving children, Harry W. Reed Jr., Esq., and wife, Sage; twin daughters Mary E. Boyer and husband Jim, Jean Laprise, Rosemary R. Steranko and husband Gregory, Robert M. Reed and wife Suk Cha; 11 grandchildren, nine greatgrandchildren; a brother-inlaw James Hubbard; two sisters-in-law, Isabella Dineer and husband, Chuck, and Betty Gentles Reed; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harry W. Reed; brother, Jim Murphy; sisters, Virginia Hubbard and Margaret Fortini and husband, Ray; and a brother-in-law Martin Reed. No funeral services are planned. Mrs. Reed will be interred with her husband at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Please keep Mrs. Reed in your prayers.
