Rose Mary McGathey nee Gonzalez. Age 101. Longtime East Hazel Crest resident, formerly of Chicago's Roseland Neighborhood. Born December 5, 1923 in Topeka, Kansas. Graduate of Fenger High School Class of 1941. Retired Secretary from the Illinois Central Railroad after 25 years of service. Longtime parishioner of St Anne Church in Hazel Crest where she was a 40 year choir member and former choir director at St Anthony Parish in Roseland. Founding member of the Women's Auxiliary of the East Hazel Crest Fire Department. Wife for 67 years of the late Richard H. "Dick" McGathey. Mother of Richard (Pam) McGathey, Ramon (Nancy) McGathey, Monica (Matthew) Elsey, Anna Marie (John) White, Ronald (Brenda) McGathey, Virginia McGathey, Victoria (Michael) Kiehl, Ret. Cpt Randolph (Jill) McGathey, CFD and Rose Mary (Daniel) Pope. Grandmother of 20. Great grandmother of 37. Daughter of the late Angelina nee Gallardo and Victor Gonzalez. Sister of Shirley (late Frank) Garcia, Louis (Carole) Gonzalez, A. Augustine (late Cheryl) Gonzalez, Dolores "Lola" (Jesus) Ortiz, Linda Umstattd, Christine (late Robert) Callahan, the late Mary Rose (late Ralph) Rodriguez, Victor (late Betty) Gonzalez and Lucille (late Gabriel) Tijerina. Aunt to many nieces and nephews. Friend of many.
Resting at St Anne Church, 16801 South Dixie Highway, Hazel Crest on Sunday June 8, 2025 from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Lying in state at St Anne Church, Hazel Crest on Monday June 9, 2025 from 9:00 am until time of Funeral Mass 10:00 am. Interment Assumption Cemetery, Glenwood.
