Kaplan, Rose (nee Wandel), beloved wife of 47 years to the late Nathan. Loving mother of Abby (David) Riba and Daniel (Mary) Kaplan. Cherished Grandmother of Lis (Ian Osmond) Riba, Joshua (Melissa) Riba and Ethan, Brendan and Renee Kaplan. Proud great grandmother of Nathan Riba. Devoted sister of Paula (the late Harold) Hefter. Rose was born in Trieste, Italy on September 1, 1924. She lived in Trieste through World War II, and went into hiding with her family when the Germans occupied the country in October 1943. She suffered the loss of her father, Leon Wandel, on the closing months of the war when he was taken to a concentration camp in March of 1945. She met Nathan Kaplan, an American soldier from Chicago, in the synagogue of Trieste in August 1945 and came here in March of 1947 to marry him. Funeral services Monday 1 PM, at Chicago Jewish Funerals Chapel, 195 N. Buffalo Grove Road, (one block north of Lake Cook Road) Buffalo Grove. Interment Shalom Memorial Park Cemetery. I am so sorry to hear of Rose's passing. She was a fine lady who lived a full life and was a wonderful wife to Nate. I only learned about the funeral today.
