Ronald Carpenter Obituary

Ronald Clarence Carpenter, 71, of Gilbert, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, in St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. Ronald was born Dec. 10, 1930, in Bena, to Clarence and Bertha (Duncan) Carpenter. He married Frances Hoey. He served with the Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean conflict. He was a 37 year employee of PM/Erie and LTV Mining companies retiring in 1992 as Supervisor. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Gilbert where he served many years as usher. He was a past member of Gilbert Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling and four-wheeling with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed sawing logs and making lumber. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; his father Clarence David Carpenter; sister Lois Beaulieu; and a niece, Debra Howes. Ronald is survived by his wife of 50 years Frances, of Gilbert; sons, Ronald W. (Debbie) of Sparta, and Patrick of Grand Rapids; daughters Vicki (Clint) Hanson of Britt, Alice (Myron) Salo of Cloquet, and Peggy Carpenter of Virginia; mother Bertha Carpenter of Grand Rapids; brothers, Robert (Florence) of Hoyt Lakes, and David (Julie) of Grand Rapids; sister Beth (James) Anderson of Hoyt Lakes; granddaughters, Marcia (Carl) Sharp of Alborn, Ronda Carpenter of Babbitt, and Teresa Salo of Floodwood; grandson, Roy Salo of Cloquet, and Michael and Adam Hanson of Britt; great-grandchildren, Brittnee and Dalton Sharp of Alborn; and many nieces and nephews. SERVICES:10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Gilbert. Mass celebrated by Fr. Frank Perkovich. Visitation 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, with Rosary recitation at 6:30 p.m. in Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Burial, with Military Honors provided by Aurora American Legion Post, will be at Gilbert Cemetery.
