I thought I saw you the other day. Guess I've just missed you a lot lately.
It seems like only yesterday I was laughing with you and Katie.
What would I begin to tell you, though, how would I start?
“Oh, can you actually believe that I finally got a car?
Don't worry, man, we could always still bike out to nowhere,
Play tee ball in the park and buy some tickets to the school fair.”
And I'd laugh about how you're raising hell up in heaven,
I could tell you about college and the places that I have been.
“But, I could've been a better friend to you back in the day.
Never watching you compete for track or your Friday night games.
I'm sorry I never helped you with the burdens that you carried.
I'm a different person now- and did you see that your brother got married?”
I'd shrug off things you do or fashions you might get into.
No matter what people assume, I've always known the real you.
You were my first best friend; I thought that you knew that?
Kindergarten, ski trips, and how you always made me laugh out?
I smile to myself at the things these people will say.
Because I know the truth you never left, you just simply passed away.
Don't think for a second, though, that I wouldn't even remember.
I keep waiting to have a drink with you every Fifteenth of November.
So let's celebrate tonight, man- just you and me.
I haven't forgotten your birthday, Roger- Happy Twenty-Three.

I got the pleasure of growing up with Roger through Shepherd of the Desert. Roger always wore a smile and was so full of life. He brought happiness through laughter and always brightened up someones day. I regret not being able to keep contact with Roger throughout high school, however I am forever grateful for the pleasure of knowing a great young man. The world could definitely use more Rogers. Rest easy buddy, I'll never forget you.

To all of Roger's Family and Friends
I can't believe it has been 1 year since that horrible day. In many ways the time has gone by quickly but in others it has been an eternity!! I miss Roger so very much, I think of him daily. I recently had the opportunity to look over some pictures of him compared to other people, they have all aged but he remains just 18... I think it was Bob Dillion who sang Forever Young.. Please don't ever forget Roger... for I never will. He was a wonderful young man who was so smart and so loved by many of us. I am so lucky to have the pleasure and experience of adopting two great... great sons. Most fathers will never know the joy that has givin to me and will continue to give for my entire life and beyond! I know a few of you have told me that you have seen or spoken to Roger in the past year. I have never had that great opportunity yet but I pray one day I will before I go be with him and the rest of my great family again. Thank you all for your incredible support and love. Frank, Debbie & Michael-
The first time I met Roger was right before Eric and I were married in 2000. His personality just drew me in. I thought both boys were just great kids. There were a few other occasions soon after that really stand out in my mind and the big one was at our wedding. It wasn't just the girl in the red dress he was dancing with, it was every girl there. He had a blast and so did everyone who was watching him.

I hope you can find comfort in those precious memories. God is watching over you right now too.

Love & Prayers,
Eric, Shelly, Madison, Drew & Justin

Frank and Debbie,
It is with deep sympathy for us all that we heard about Roger today. We remember Roger best pushing and pulling his trombone slide at music camp and seeing you applauding his musical accomplishments. We wish you G-d speed in filling that canyon of sorrow with all the love and memories Roger brought to you and all those around him.

Debbie and Family,
My heart broke when I heard the news. Though it has been a long time since I've seen you, it feels like only yesterday Roger and my girls were in elementary school. Debbie, I always enjoyed a quick chat with you and I loved seeing your smiling face at school. I don't have the words to express to you my sympathy.
Love and Blessings,

Aunt Debbie, Uncle Frank, Michael...
We are thinking of Roger and all the great memories of holidays, vacations, and fun times... those days are irreplaceable and the memories are priceless. It so hard to understand the meaning of times like these, but we do know that Roger is in God's care, and the care of everyone who has passed onto Heaven in our family.
Children come into each of our lives for some great reason, they seem to give our lives a different meaning and an endless love, of it's own kind.
I hope God gives you the strength you need, and keeps the memories of Roger alive in you everyday.
Love you, Kristy, Steve, Christian and Dylan

Dear Debbie,
Remember back when...............
We are sitting in your kitchen and you just made a pot of coffee (I brought my own cup) and we are looking out your kitchen window. Running around laughing and giggling are three boys...two with dark hair (Michael and Christopher) and one with blond hair (Roger). The little one is trying to catch up to the two older ones and he is smiling from ear to ear, having the time of his life.

That is how I will remember Roger, always smiling and having a great time. He will be dearly missed, but his memory will always be in our hearts.

God bless you dear friend.
Love,
Diane

Dear Aunt Debbie, Uncle Frank, & Michael,
My heart breaks for you and I feel an emptiness inside. At the same time I feel that we were all blessed with the opportunity to have Roger in our lives. His soft blonde hair and his wide smile made everyone just want to hug him. God must need a very special angel. I think of Roger now sitting with his grandparents and Pop Pop Grafe holding his hand (and offering him a cold one).
Roger will always have a special place in my heart.
Love,

All too well we know the heartbreak that you are going through. A young life taken before it could reach it's full potential or fully enjoy all the gifts God has given us. We pray that the strength of all of you together will get you through these first terrible weeks, and peace and hope will fill the future.

I'll always remember him at Eric and Shelly's wedding dancing (repeatedly) with the gal with the red dress on. What a hoot he was.

Love you guys: Steve and Linda

I remember first meeting Roger as a sixth grader entering mountainside. He was always a funny kid, and nice to me as well. We lost contact, but became reacquainted again last year, when we both were in the wrestling program at Desert Mountain. He always had a great attitude, and will be missed. I'm fairly shocked to hear about this, and just wanted to express my sympathies for this terrible loss.
