My condolences to the Wheat family members. Bob and I worked together in District 228 for many years. He was the superintendent, and I was a teacher. However, over the years during his tenure and during his retirement, I progressed through the ranks to become superintendent. Many times, I used Bob's examples when I was in that position. I appreciated his skills and talents more as I gained experience. He and his work are a large part of the history of District 228.
God speed!

I am saddened at the passing of mr. Wheat. He was a wonderful high school principal at Tinley Park where his son Dave and I both went. He was also a strong supporter of our high school band, in which we both played. I did not know he flew B-24s in WW-II. His service is to be commended. God Speed, Sir.

My condolences to the Wheat family. Your Dad was mentor to me for many years at District 228 and I fortunate to become the Superintendent some years later. My first day on the job I called your Dad. We visited in Florida and talked many times over the years. A great guy .....and your Mom was a Super Lady! Jim Riordan

My Dad: My Dad was of the Greatest Generation, flying B-24s during WWII. My Dad was a High School Principal at age 25. My Dad was a St. Louis Cardinals fan and took me/us to ballgames at Sportsman Park. We saw Stan Musial hit 5 home runs. My Dad taught me how to play tennis. ( he only let me beat him once). My Dad let me drive him to Chicago and back at the age of 16 because his arm was sore from fast pitch softball. My Dad presented me with my High School Diploma. My Dad saw me off to the Army. My Dad shook hands with President Ford. I shook hands with Betty Ford. My Dad lived the American dream with 30 years of retirement. My Dad asked me to help him these last 3 years because he couldn't do much with his mind and body any more....YOU BETCHA! My Dad....my hero.

I will truly miss my sweet grandpa. He was so kind to me and so many others. He never asked for much either, "just a warm smile and a kind word". He was so goofy & funny too. "Oh grandpa" I would always say. Love you Grandpa. RIP
