Robert Weinberg Obituary

Weinberg, Robert I. age 77, a long time Chicago resident, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2002. Bob was born August 27, 1924, in Minnesota as the eldest of three sons of Hattie and Ben Weinberg. He was a graduate and celebrated football star at Senn High School and also President of his high school fraternity, the Ravens. Bob attended University of Illnois before being drafted into the U.S. Army. Bob served in the Army during WWII and was awarded the prestigious Purple Heart and served bravely and courageously at TheBattle of the Bulge. His athletic strength and power defied his age on the tennis court at Highland Park Country Club where he was consistently acknowledged for his abilities. Bob was the Co-Owner of a family business Art Publishing Company. He was also a fundraiser for Jewish United Fund and a favorite volunteer at the Deerfield Park District pre-school where he was known as "Grandpa Bob". He was also called "Big Bob". He had a presence and a heart that was larger than life itself. He embraced each day with gratitude, loving compassion and heartfelt generosity. His love, passion and total commitment to his family and his many life long relationships were truly the hallmark of Bob's life. He is survived by his bride of 40 years, Shirley Weinberg, his five children, Susan (Barry) Brooks, Jim (Linique) Weinberg, Dr. Michael (Sue Farley) Levine, Rochelle (Murray) Engle and Anne (Hassan Virji) Weinberg, along with his nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two brothers, Donald (Mary Jane) Warren and Edward (Gerry) Weinberg will keep the loving memory of Bob Weinberg, alive in their hearts forever. Services will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2002, at 1 p.m., at Am Shalom, 840 Vernon Ave., Glencoe. Interment Rosemont Park Cemetery.
