Robert Axon Obituary
ROBERT JAMES
Of Swissvale and Boca Raton, FL, went to meet the Lord on May 7, 2002 at his home in Boca Raton at the age of 91. He was the beloved father of Joycelyn Axon Rogers and father-in-law of Montgomery Rogers of Great Falls, VA; beloved grandfather of Brett Axon Rogers and his wife Jennifer of Boulder, CO. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 61 years, Marion Trezise Axon. He was a life-long supporter and member of the Swissvale United Methodist Church and an associate member of the First Presbyterian Church of Boca Raton. He was a graduate of the American Banking Institute at the University of Pittsburgh. He was an assistant vice president of Mellon Bank and was a long-time manager of their Munhall and Swissvale offices until his retirement in 1975. Bob was an active member and supporter of numerous community organizations and was accorded the honor of being listed in "The Outstanding Civic Leaders of America" in recognition of his services. He was a past president of the Swissvale Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow, treasurer of the Swissvale School District, past President of the Swissvale Chamber of Commerce and served on the Swissvale Borough Council & Planning Commission. He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Infinity Lodge 546 & the Syria Temple. Bob was a veteran of WWII, serving in England. Bob loved traveling and traveled extensively on five continents during his retirement years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Robert J. Axon Memorial Fund at the Swissvale United Methodist Church, 2018 South Braddock Ave., Swissvale, PA 15218. Visitation to be at the THOMAS L. NIED FUNERAL HOME, INC. 7441 Washington St., Swissvale, Monday, 6:30-9pm and Tuesday, 2-4 & 7-9pm. Service will be at the Swissvale Methodist Church at 10:30am on Wednesday, May 15, 2002 followed by interment at Braddock Cemetery. Everyone please meet at the Church.

Mr Axon used to sit in front of me with his wife in church. He was such a kind and loving man, respected by all. We will surely miss him.
