Richard Michalek Obituary

Michalek,Richard ("Dick") January 19, 1923 - August 30, 2007 Born in Chicago, Illinois to John and Anastasia Michalek, brother of Leo, Walter, Angeline, Elizabeth and "Wally", devoted loving husband to his late beloved "Dodie", magnificent father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Dick finally released his grip on this life to fall into the arms of his Lord. Richard is survived by daughters Judith (husband Bill) and Cherie (husband Duane), and sons Richard (wife Molly), Robert (wife Dana) and Randy (wife Kelly), grandchildren Kristiann, Paige, Beau, Kasandra, Nathan, John Thomas, Mellissa, Shawn, Lindsey, and Julia, and great-grandchildren Makenzie, Zachary, Riley, Bronwyn, Kellen and Olivia. Dick Michalek will be remembered by all as a man who took immense pride and joy in his family, and who treated all who entered the Michalek house as family. Even as his body and mind were slowly overtaken, he never lost his ability to delight with a self-deflating quip or ironic observation. A decorated navy veteran of WWII, Dick returned to Chicago to begin working in five different decades (the last three in Sunnyvale California) for Western Electric, retiring in 1982 as Senior Engineer. Visitation at Oak Hill Funeral Home, 300 Curtner Avenue, San Jose from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4th. Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m., at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church, 15333 Woodard Road, San Jose. Entombment service to follow at Los Gatos Memorial Park, 225 Los Gatos-Almaden Road, San Jose. In lieu of flowers, gifts of any amount in Dick's memory may be made to O'Connor Hospital Foundation (408) 947-2717.
