Richard Hammond Obituary

Hammond, Richard H. 81, passed away on April 12, 2008. He was born on Oct. 5, 1926 in Glendale, CA. He grew up in Long Beach and Beaumont, CA, and upon graduation from high school in 1944 he enlisted in the Navy. After discharge, he attended Riverside Community College and UCLA from which he received a Bachelor's degree in Meteorology. Mr. Hammond moved to Denver, CO where he was employed by Krick & Co. as a weather forecaster and where he met his wife, Marianne. In 1957, they moved to Northbrook, IL and he joined V.J. Killian Co., which he ran for three decades. Mr. Hammond was a founding member of the Northbrook YMCA, active in local boy scouts, past presidents of the Winnetka Rotary and Winnetka Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Winnetka Congregational Church and the Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ. He enjoyed fishing, sailing and watching sports with his family. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marianne, two sons Donald (Amy) and Stuart, a daughter Joanne (Bob) Baker and four grandchildren, Doug, Kim Lauren and Rick. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnetka/Northfield Rotary Club, 620 Lincoln Ave., Winnetka, IL 60093 or Midwest Palliative and Hospice Care Center, 2050 Claire Ct., Glenview, IL 60025.
