Now retired I was glad to have had the opportunity to be a part of one of Rich's achievements. Unknown to most people who were aware of his wheel business was his contribution to the the racing industry. After three years of painstaking trials, and design errors over a three year period, he proved the industry wrong by producing a gravity mold magnesium wheel that passed the stringent California Indy wheel certification process.
Many of the most informed and professionals in the business said that the molecular structure of a gravity cast mold could not withstand the torque requirements as compared to a injected mold wheel.
As the manufacturing engineer of the project, Rich guided us through the turbulent times until the winning race day when 12 of the 33 cars of the 1998 Indy race used the Bart wheel.
There is good feeling to see the 6 numbers I stamped the 1997
and 1998 indy car wheel I programmed and machined which sits in the Indianapolis 500 museum hall of fame.

The Bart wheel was he only wheel in 50 years made in America
that was qualified for the Indianapolis 500. It was a time in history that serves as a testament to his unwavering determination to make his mark in the history books.
