I was saddened to learn of Ray's passing. He was a great patriot and a good friend. Loyalty meant much to Ray Wilkowski. He was loyal to his family and many friends; he was loyal to his job in the Illinois Secretary of States Office, where he worked for more than three decades; and Ray was loyal to his country, for which he fought.
I had the pleasure of working with Ray for ten years in the Illinois Secretary of States Office. He was a good public servant and loyal to the many men who served as Secretary of State, regardless of their political party. The thousands of people who worked with Ray or knew him through his work with veterans will miss Ray. My deepest sympathies and best wishes are extended to Don and the rest of the Wilkowski family. Ray was a "one-of-a-kind!"

My heart is so sad that Ray is gone. Everyone who knew him knows what a Patriot he was and knows that he loved the Corps almost more than he loved life. But what most people who knew him do not know is that he was one of the most loving and generous of men. He tried to be gruff and rough around the edges, but when it came to family, he had a heart the size of Texas. And he was a total marshmallow. After the passing of his dear wife, he built a relationship with my mother and became a loving and caring "step dad" to my sisters and me. After mom passed in 1992, our relationship with Ray grew stronger over the years as he continued to love us like a Dad. I was blessed to have had Ray in my life. With his passing, "his girls" in St. Louis will grieve his loss for a very long time. God bless you Ray as you enter into God's kingdom. Say hello to mom for us...
