Scaletta, Philip beloved husband of Arlene (nee Tomczak Merda) and the late Irene (nee Hoffman), loving father of Danelle Scaletta and Phyllis (late Gleason) Sneed, dearest stepfather of Michael (Regina) Merda, Donna (John) Knoll, Julie (Chris) Cello and William (Carrie) Merda, cherished grandfather of Melanie (Chris) Broderick, Amy Sneed, step-grandfather of Crpl. Nicholas (Stacey), and Alex Merda, Richard, John and Michelle Knoll, Lauren, Alex and Matt Cello, Sarah and Jake Merda, precious great-grandfather of Philip Broderick and Paige Vandenburg, dear brother of Pauline (late James) Bowling and Mariane (Michael) Tar, brother-in-law of George Huske, late Bruno (late Helen) Kut, Virginia (late Anthony) Blazenisk and Alice (late Henry) Kochan, preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers, many nieces and nephews. Resting at the Richard-Midway Funeral Home, 5749 Archer Ave. (corner of Lorel) to St. Symphorosa Church for 9:30 a.m. Mass on Tuesday, March 24, 2009. Interment Mount Carmel Cemetery. Dear "Mrs. Merda" and family,
Was so very sorry to read of your husband's passing. My mom saw it in the paper. I met once after Grandma died so 14 years ago? and you were so happy together - "like teenagers" you said - I am so sorry for your loss.

Dear Arlene,
You and Phil were so loving and warm with each other. He will be missed. He just had a very warm and friendly personality and that is what I remember most. I hope you will take comfort in the knowledge that you have friends and family who loved and cared for Phil. If there is anything we can do to help you through your pain, don't hesitate to call. We thank Philip for his many years of service in the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Through his efforts many people were helped; he will be missed by those he helped and by his fellow Vincentians. Philip will be remembered in our prayers.

I was so sad to hear of the passing of Phil. May God watch over you and your family during this time of sadness. Phil is in Heaven now and I know my Mom was there to welcome him to Heaven.
